Having worked in the retail paint industry, I know how essential it is to follow the instructions given, especially on an outdoor product. I followed, to the letter, the prep and application on the can. Now, like many other reviewers, the paint is peeling off my deck in some places and sticking in others. I did call Rustoleum and they do guarantee their product but the problem is, I now have a deck that I have had to invest money in to pressure wash and sand (and strip, if I want to get rid of the last remaining bits of product). Having them reimburse me for the product will not fix this mess. It has cost me time and money to get my deck back into shape to reapply a different product. The photo is the deck after all the pressure washing and the deck sander.

This product, so far, went on wonderful, but make sure to get the primer and roller especially made for the 10x paint. This roller uses up more of the paint so buy accordingly. This was used on my new wheelchair ramp and my chair doesn’t slip or slide at all. I am thoroughly satisfied.

Thank you for your feedback, Tammy! Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced Deck and Concrete Resurfacer does offer a thick, textured coating. If applying to a more weathered coating, please keep in mind that the color can vary slightly due to UV exposure the previous coat may have experienced. This is why if refreshing the color, we recommend applying a new coat to the whole surface.

I live in Northern California. My deck is 45 years old and I have tried everything to prevent leakage to carport below. Replaced 5/8" plywood with 1.25" and had a rubber seamless membrane applied 20 years ago with outdoor carpet over it. After carpet wore out I removed it tearing holes in some of the membrane. More leaks. Had some beautiful Chinese genuine rock slate-like tiles laid over the membrane using regular tile cement caulking. Still leaked. Finally saw ad about Restore 10X deck restorer so purchased 12 gallons (4cans) and my son and I applied the product right over the tiles according to directions. That was three years ago and the irregularity of those rock tiles show through and still looks beautiful. Finally now have a leak proof seal on my deck so my wife's car no longer gets wet below. This product was an answer to my prayers. It is still nice but I am going to buy 12 more gallons and recoat the surface to ensure no more leakage. Maybe it doesn't do the job for some folks but for me it is a lifesaver.

DO NOT PURCHASE....Like others who have reviewed this product, Restore is an epic fail. Directions were followed exactly at the beginning of the Summer of 2016. Soon after the Restore began to bubble and peel. I purchased the Restore stain in the same color hoping to cover up the spots and somewhat save what had been done. Total waste of money and time...deck is now a disgrace. I reached out to Rust-Oleum, no response. Total disappointment.

Do not use. I used this product 2 years ago and it lasted 1 year and began to peel. Now about 1/2 of it has peeled off and I have to scrape the rest off. This product does not stand up past 1 year and Rustoleum does not stand behind their product, I submitted two product complaints to them and have not heard back. Do not buy this product - you will regret it!

To achieve a smoother finish, a brush may be used to skim the surface of the 2nd coat of Rust-Oleum Restore 10 X Advanced Deck and Concrete Resurfacer. Apply the 1st coat as directed with the Restore Honeycomb Roller and let it dry for 4-6 hours. Apply the second coat with the Restore Honeycomb Roller to a section of the surface. While the product is still wet, use a synthetic bristle brush and lightly skim the product in the opposite direction as rolled. Use care not to remove any of the material already in place by applying too much pressure. Maintain a wet edge at all times and do not over work the product. Rustoleum

I used this five years ago on me deck and I was so happy the way it turned out, but a few years later the deck was rotting away and I called regarding the product and was told they would pay me for the product I used if I had the proof of purchase. Well a few years later I didn't have a paper work so now I have to replace the whole deck because most of it is rotted away now. Replaced a lot of the broads a couple of years ago and now there are more that have to be replaced. I hope a lot of people read this an never buy any of the product for their deck.

I have had it for a week and I love it so far. I don't know how long will it last, but only time will tell. I bought and used the recommended roller, but I found it unhelpful. it was hard to apply the product onto my deck . So I used a regular paint roller instead, and it worked great. My deck looks brand new. I will post a photo to this review when I have a chance.

          Don't Buy This Product!!
This product peeled and chipped within 4 months of application. We used it on a wood deck. The manufacturer would not stand by this product and said that we didn't apply it correctly. We followed the directions as stated on the product. It was recommended by the store employee.

Hmm, something is amiss here. When properly prepped and applied Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advance Deck and Concrete Resurfacer will last for years to come. To help ensure maximum adhesion the deck should be thoroughly stripped with a deck stripper or primed with a deck primer. Check out Rust-Oleum Restore Deck Start Wood Primer.

          Paint Peeled Away
I built my deck two years ago. Let the wood weather for a year and then cleaned the deck with the suggested rust-oleum cleaner and applied the 10x product on the deck and the 4x on the stairs. It took a couple of days as I applied 3 layers. Not even 1 year later most of the paint is peeling off of the traffic areas and almost all of the pain is gone from the stairs. I am disappointed the product did not work as I spent a significant amount of time and money with this project. I have an upper deck that is 16ftX20 and a lower deck that is 16ftx10.

That is not what we like to hear, Richard. Preparation is key to both Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced and Restore 4X adhering properly. To properly prepare your surface we recommend starting your project using either the Restore Deck Start Wood Primer or the Restore Deck Stripper. Please don't buy this - it doesn't even last 2 years if it gets any weather at all.
We put this in 2 years ago. We followed all of the directions. We used exclusively Rustoleum products, their roller, their cleaner, etc. We waited the appropriate amount of time from wash to install. There was no rain for days and days after. It looked good at first. It still looks great where it gets no exposure to the sun, snow, etc. At the eaveline it is all in pieces. It started with small chips the first year and now after two year we have whole board junks coming off in 4 or 5" pieces. We had installed both on new boards and on old boards - we cleaned both the old and new boards with their product and now I have a huge mess. I'm trying to figure out how to get it OFF. Please don't waste your precious pennies on this. It won't hold up in Minnesota. I'm so very very disappointed.

            Bad Product!
I applied this product to my aging deck according to the instructions in the summer of 2015. It is peeling and coming off my deck in many places. It doesn't look like it will last for 10 years let alone for the rest of 2016. I wish I had never believed their advertising, you cannot remove this product once it is applied. I need to get a refund, but that will not take care of the problem.

              Difficult to recommend
This Rust-Oleum 10X Deck Restorer has very poor surface adhesion to bare wood and extremely poor adhesion to other paint. If you don't follow the instructions below EXACTLY, or if you skip or modify a step, you will have a 90% chance of large chunks flaking off within a year or less. 1. Start with aged, dry wood. Then apply Rust-Oleum brand (yes BRAND is necessary) Restore wood primer first. OR, Start with a previously painted deck and strip it completely with the Rust-Oluem brand (again, brand is necessary) Restore paint stripper. In addition, if surface was at all dirty, you must first use Rust-Oleum Deck and Concrete Cleaner, BEFORE the primer. 2. Make sure deck wood is EXTREMELY dry, after step one. Wait at least a few days. If not extremely dry, it will fail. 3. Make sure there is no moisture, sprinkler or precipitation on the deck for 48 hours AFTER you have applied the product. 4. Must put on two coats. Coats must be at least 4 to 6 hours apart. One coat may look okay but it will fail to seal the wood adequately and water will seep into the wood and make it start to flake off. 5. Temperature must be below 90 and above 50 degrees F, for 72 hours, continuously, after application. Also avoid putting it on in hot sun or very windy conditions, or it will dry before you are finished and all areas won't adhere properly to each other. At less than 48% humidity, the finish will dry enough for light traffic in 24 hours, but full cure to be strong enough for furniture, etc will require at least 7 days. It says that each gallon will provide two coats for 40 square feet. Maybe I put it on heavier than that, but at two coats I only got about 25 to 30 square feet per gallon. I did use their recommended roller for a rougher surface. A regular roller would probably stretch it farther and might give good results, though less textured. This stuff is like peanut butter when it goes on (though less 'heavy'). If you follow all the above, you probably will end up with a beautifully finished deck, that might stay looking great for years. If you don't follow all the above, exactly, then you really must be prepared for abject failure. I can speak from personal experience on this, and also from combing the internet afterwards to find out why this stuff goes wrong for so many people.

              Absolutely Great!
I have an 850 sq. ft redwood deck that is over 40 years old. As I live in a treed area, the deck has received a lot of moisture over the years and aside from repairing needed for some of the boards, it has also required stain over the years. I decided to stop restaining every two years and use this restorative paint. I couldn't be more pleased! It to0ok a whole weekend to clean, prep and paint and the end product is gorgeous. The paint is thhick enough to smooth out some of the older boards but not so thick that you don't see some of the beautiful redwood grain. The prep is important as primer is needed for the paint to adhere properly. It looks like a brand new deck and as soon as I can figure out how to attach a photo, will post to this site.

This product works great Must follow instructions
I just got done applying the Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced Redwood Deck and Concrete Resurfacer to my floor in my Tuff Shed. Here are my suggestions on using the Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced Redwood Deck and Concrete Resurfacer. Background: I have a square 10’ x 10’ Tuff Shed with an un-painted floor. 100 sq. ft. total surface area. I wanted to paint the floor with Rust-Oleum Restore. First I painted the floor with Rust-Oleum Restore Deck Start Wood, with ONE coat. I let it dry for 24 hours. This is a special Primer that is formulated especially for Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced. Notes on using Rust-Oleum Restore 10X Advanced: It’s very thick paint and ONE gallon only covers 40 sq. ft. You should use the special Rust-Oleum Restore rollers (3/8” Nap); they are very course and made from plastic. They spread the thick paint and leave a rough texture. They clean up very well, so you just have to buy one. I bought one large and one small roller. TWO coats are required. I had to use about 4 gallons to cover 100 sq. ft. The paint splatters a lot. So make sure you us an 18” to 24” paper guard along the base of the walls of your deck or you will get Rust-Oleum Restore 10X all over the lower portion of your walls. And it is hard to sand or scrap off! In order for you to get the final ¼ gallon from the can you have to scrap the sides and bottom with a stir stick. Like I said, it’s very thick. It takes 48 hours to completely dry. Make sure you follow the temperature requirements. Only apply when you will 48 consecutive hours of ambient temperature between 50 to 90 degrees F. Final review – This product works great. I have a very thick and sturdy coating on my Tuff Shed floor now. The Home Depot personal we not as knowledgeable as I hoped, but they did give me a few correct hints. Follow the instructions and expect to use a lot of paint in fairly small area.
