car audio applications on doors and floor
I am an acoustical engineer who designs commercial buildings. We use MLV for noise abatement in walls on occasion. For walls, you're better off with Green Glue between two layers of GWB. The mobile audio community also wants MLV for road noise abatement in cars. This product works great on both vehicle doors and floors - but does require a decoupling layer. CCF can be used but I prefer a radiant/acoustical barrier using ultratouch insulation (also sold by Home Depot). This product is closer to .75lb/sq.ft. so the transmission loss is less than 1lb/sq.ft. products. However, due to contribution of flanking paths, this product will perform as well in most applications. Proper fasteners and decoupling are recommended.

Got Noise? Not anymore!
I used this DB-3 Barrier on top of an existing wall built in the 1950's. I used a green product adhesive of choice and applied it to the wall and layed the barrier over it and used a few nails to hold in place. I waited a day and then applied the Soundproofing drywall named "quietrock" over this. The outcome was jaw-dropping. At three in the morning while playing music or talking on the phone there is no (Nada) noise even with my ear pressed against the wall. Highly recommend this product for use. Just a little research and some comon sense techniques and you have the solution. Like they say "You can do it, we can help"! Victor Ramirez

It helps but not sure if it's worth the price per sq ft
Like other reviews said, it's basically automobile sound deadener. Pretty heavy material. Box says it eliminates up to 75% of sound... I would say more like 30-50% in my application. I used it in an odd application. My walls are extremely soundproof, but my door is basically honeycomb cardboard. Attached with a few tiny nails. It's definitely effective but seems like higher frequencies make it through.

Also used in cars
We use this product for cars to kill road noise and to help with the sound quality of the sound systems. 1st we add a sound deadner to the doors, 2nd we add the DB3 to the top of that and then place the door panels back on. This stuff is heavy and helps alot with keeping sounds in and keeping sounds out. We used 2 sided Velcro to hold it in place until the panels go back on.

Used in conference room
The acoustical barrier was thicker and heaver than I expected. It appears to be very similar to acoustical shielding used the automotive world. I installed as part of a layered wall system per industry recommendations. 5/8 Drywall, R13 Batt insulation, 5/8 Drywall, Acoustical Barrier, and 1/4 drywall. I used the barrier in 1 conference room and there is a noticeable difference. It does not block 100% of the sound, but it makes the conference room more pleasant to work it.

    Not so great in car
After reading other reviews that said this product worked well to dampen noise in their cars, I thought I'd give it a try. So, after taking out the interior, put vibration dampener sticky mat down, a couple layers of closed cell foam, and covering most of the interior surface with this product, the cabin noise is reduced. Is it reduced enough to make me think it was worth it? No! Can I have a conversation without having to raise my voice? No. Do I still have to crank up the stereo just to hear it? Yes. I don't know how well it works behind drywall, but for cars I would look elsewhere. For what it's worth, I've found that just putting fiberglass insulation behind drywall walls does a pretty good job of reducing noise.

    Major attenuation under drywall
Great for soundproofing a wall between kid bedrooms. Insulation between studs plus drywall, plus this stapled to first sheet of drywall, plus a second sheet of drywall. 3-year old isn't woken up by the infant screaming in the next room.

I live near an airport, this stuff really cuts down the noise
For a very reasonable price this is very effective to cut down on the noise. Make sure you install it properly.

Response from dB Sound ControlMar 24, 2016
      Vallyguy,

We are very happy to hear your experience. Yes, everyone, sound is very much like water, it will find a way to pass around your barrier, you must make sure you address all avenues for sound transmission with proper installation.

I am glad our product solved your solution Thank you very much for your comments.

      Great product, horrible distribution.
I don't understand why this product isn't carried in stores. It is rolled up so it doesn't take much space. They would only need to keep a handful on hand at a time. Ship to store is fine but it takes too long and depending on the store you may have to deal with unnecessary hassles due to inefficient systems for handling special orders.

        PRODUCT DOES NOT WORK
I bought this roll of rubber like material to cover the back of a bedroom door and block sound from a TV. This product does practically nothing to stop even a small amount of sound and is a HOAX! If it worked, I would tell you. However, it does not! You can use a piece of carpeting and get better results.

        Really reduced noise level
A bedroom is on the other side of the garage wall and a freezer, refrigerator, and wine cooler could be heard at night. The ice maker dropping its cubes was especially annoying. After sealing the wall, the noise was so diminished that it was no longer noticeable. Much better than expected!

        procuct worked for me
I put this up to deaden noise between two apartments that shared a common wall about 12 feet wide. This was applied over 1/2" sheetrock and then covered with 1/.2" greenboard and then 5/8" firerock. Previous to this you could hear loud speech quite well and now loud speech is just barely heard as a mumble. My guess at the STC would be mid 40's. (privacy usually is acquired around 40 STC)

        Does NOT work!!!
It really does not work. Don;t waste your money. It barely muffles sound much less reducing it 75% as they claim.

          It really does work!!
We have a well pump in the basement of our house (right below our baedroom) and it makes a fair amount of noise. We have thought of putting a pump in our well (at a cost of over $1000). I had heard of products that could quiet the noise down and I went online and found this product at Home Depot. I read good reviews about it and decided it was worth a try. AND IT WAS WELL WORTH THE TRY!!. It cut the noise down so much we scrapped the pump replacement idea all together. It was easy to cut with a box cutter and a pair of shears. I stapled it to a plywood box that surrounded the pump that I had made to cut the noise. This rubber type material really did cut the noise by at least 75%. Now the pump is hardly noteciable. My wife and I highly recommend it. Very easy to work with.

          Excellent product for sound-proofing
This material was a perfect addition to a sound-blocking system that I built to stop the noise from a large 4 valve aquarium air pump. The pump was so loud that it was annoying to hear in every part of the house. Now, in the sound-block system; the pump sound is undetectable throughout the house. Only when you stand 3 feet away from it, can you VERY slightly hear the pump. I'm very pleased with this product. This material is easy to work with

Worked great. Must staple to 4 by 8 sheet of plywood. Too heavy and clumsy to install directly to stud in a new installation.

            Great value for the price
I bought this product for sound dampening in my Sprinter van camper conversion project as a substitute for more expensive Fat Mat type products. Once I got it to stick to the walls I was happy. 3M 77 adhesive did not work well without a silicone seal around the edges which tried to curl away from the wall. Even with the extra materials I still got away much cheaper than the specialized products. The walls feel solid and are ready for insulation and vapor barrier.

Worked really well for neighbor noise.
I needed to stop noise from coming through my shared apartment wall. So I got enough bookcases to fill the length of the wall and tacked db3 to the back of each of them. It's heavy but very easy to cut and tack, or nail. It seems to be doing the job. It's the only thing like it out there that I could find, and I'm really pleased.

            Does what it claims
Works well to reduce high and mid frequency sound transmission. Not as heavy as more expensive, thicker, versions elsewhere, but cheap enough that you can use multiple layers and still end up way ahead.

Very good alternative for Auto noise barrier
I bought this stuff to lay under the carpet of my car and it works well. Standard audio mlv (noise barrier) weigh 1lb/sf. This product is only 3/4 lb/sf but it still help a lot for much less $

I am using this material in my truck to block out road noise and wow does it ever work. I had a night and day difference with it. The vinyl is very easy to cut and work into area's where I needed it to fit.

              Decent Product
Comparing to other products on the market it was very reasonable. Was under the impression it was a self adhering item like Dynamat but needed to purchase spray on adhesive. Seems to do a good job deadening sound.
