I’ve used this tape before but I believe they have a bad lot. I used it for a high end client in a very nice high rise and it peeled off all of their very expensive wallpaper and paint. I’m now having to replace/ remove and paint and pay for damages done.

Very disappointed on this tape! It peel off the paint everywhere that I put the tape and supposed to be delicate surface did not expect that I will have extra work now. Won't buy again highly recommend do not buy this.

Very sticky, Not for delicate surfaces. It pulled cured paint off finished stairway trim requiring many hours to repaint. I've had better results with the original Blue tape and Frog tape. Very Unhappy painter.

Sweet. Worked for spraying a picture frame with mirror effect spray.

This tape did not live up to its promise. We specifically chose this to protect the back of the bookcases that we'd painted blue. After weeks of dry time, we taped up the blue edges and painted the trim work white. Days later we went to peel off the purple tape and it removed large areas of the blue, destroying all my hard work!

I bought this to do a feature wall with dimensional markings using the tape for the design. Taped up the wall and it looked great. Put two coats of paint on it. I decided to wait two days to make sure the paint dried before I pulled the tape. Directions say you have up to 60 days to remove the tape. I slowly removed it and places of the paint on the wall came off. Not only that, the paint seeped slightly under the tape all throughout the whole project. I even pressed hard on the edges so that it wouldn’t seep.

This tape destroyed my cabinet painting project. I have to go back & somehow repainted all the black parts of my cabinet. Not a happy camper

This worked great for textured ceilings but must be removed immediately after project is complete.

We are a residential general contractor. We've used this tape successfully in the past but today with 2 different crews in 2 different cities, we experienced the same tape failure. It pulled off the paint in areas that did not have fresh paint. Is this a bad batch?

I had a crew of workers at my house that hung plastic from the ceiling, which is Venetian plaster. There are now visible sticky tape lines on the ceiling. Using Goof Off and other adhesive removers just make it worse, as they thin the adhesive and work them into the pores of the plaster more. Very frustrating and expensive to fix.

My professionally painted walls looked great - until I tried this tape when painting the trim. The walls were fully cured (2 1/2 months) and the tape was on less than 24 hours. I now have walls that will need serious touch-ups. So frustrated

I routinely purchase this 3M/Scotch brand delicate surface tape from Home Depot to use for all sorts of painting and other projects. Having used generic and Frog brand painting tapes in the past with terrible results, I don't even bother looking at other brands of tapes and instead head straight for the trusted 3M branded rolls. The delicate surface tape is designed for making very sharp paint lines on surfaces that may be damaged by using regular masking tape or the regular 3M blue painters tape. However, instead of having multiple rolls for multiple reasons, I have found no reason at all to use anything other than this model 2080 tape for all of my projects. PACKAGING: Very basic, just a simple plastic wrapping. There isn't a lot of information printed on the roll of tape as this product is mostly understood how it's to be used. QUALITY: 3M is a trusted name and generally is the 'cadillac' of whatever it is you are shopping for. The cost is usually a bit more but you do get what you pay for and I am happy to pay extra to get the quality I receive from this tape. Delicate surface or not, I take time and make sure it is adhered properly with sharp mitered corners where appropriate and then I ready for painting. One tip that will serve you well is to go around the perimeter of the tape with your brush and just barely wet the edge of it with paint. Do not goop a large amount of paint along the edges of this or any tape and expect it to hold the paint back. It won't. So take your time and barely wet it and then after about a half hour of dry time, you can come back and paint along it with the full amount of paint that's appropriate for your project. The reason you barely wet it the first time is so that you allow the paint to bond with the edge of the tape and not seep under it. This is how you get such crisp lines when you pull the tape off. Pull the tape off when appropriate (there are multiple helpful articles under the Info and Guides section of this webpage) and at the proper angle. If the paint begins to come off with the tape, there are ways to deal with that such as using a razor blade to cut the bond or consider not gooping up large amounts of paint up to and on top of the tape - or buy better quality paint. RECOMMENDATION: Consider using the delicate surface tape for all of your projects in which you desire crisp paint lines. It is the thinnest of the painters tapes on the market, yet has great adhesion and release properties. It's well worth the extra cost to get a better result. PRO's: Great adhesion, can be left on the surface for up to 60 days, comes in multiple widths, seals out paint if you 'prime' it first. Con's: It is more costly than other tapes and depending on the surface, may not adhere as well as regular painters tape.

It was easy to put the tape on, getting it off without ripping the paint off of the walls was another story. I am going to have to go around and not only fix where the paint was pulled off but were the paint went underneath of the tape. I pressed to seal it, clearly it didn’t work. I definitely would not recommend this tape to anyone as you are going to spend more time fixing the issues that it creates than not. Walls were prepped and left to dry for 48 hours, The label said it had to be at least 24 hours.. Clearly it did not matter

Love this tape! We accidentally left a portion of the tape on after painting for a week and I was so worried it would peel off the paint. I gently removed it and it came off beautifully! This tape is easily removed but also easily applied - even readjustable if need be. Highly recommended.

Painted part of my kitchen yesterday and when I pulled the tape off this morning I had a lot of paint from the ceiling pulled off by the tape. This is the delicate tape so I’m wondering about the roll of general tape (2005) I bought. Not happy!!

Yes I received my package with my painters tape inside a different color burgundy Delicate Surface... but it still is 3M a good brand to buy when you need something to work.

The blue tape kept pulling off the paint. I normally did not have that problem but I assume the differences in the wall were the key. So, I accidentally saw this one on the shelf and said let me try it. It certainly did the trick. Pulled off easily without pulling the paint at all.

I used this on a freshly painted wall to add metallic vertical stripes. The tape sealed out excess paint and I was left with perfectly crisp lines all the way across, and no peeling.

Used on a bedroom remodel. Was going to leave the existing wallpaper but as you can see from pictures, the tape that had been there less than 24 hours pealed off the wallpaper that was I under it. This is a costly repair as now the wall has to be refinished!! This tape does not do what it says it will, DO NOT USE IT ON WALLPAPER!!

It does exactly what painters tape is meant to do, but is even more gentle to the surface it's applied to. Removes easily, cleanly and completely without disturbing or marring the surface and leaves a super clean line that I have come to expect from Scotch Painters Tape. Perfection as always from Scotch and 3M!

3 rooms taped with this horrible tape are absolutely ruined and need to be re-taped AND repainted! absolutely horrible!!! This “delicate surface” tape took the paint off down to the plaster everything is ruined!!!

I haven't had time to get curtains yet and it's very cold (20 degrees F) and I need to cover my windows. The room is newly painted so I'm using the tape to help secure pillow cases to windows until I can figure out what kind of window treatments I want. The tape is very thin (it's actually see through) but very sticky. It holds well, but I'm not sure it will hold up with the temperature like other 3M products.

We used this tape on our brand new cabinets. It took some of the finish off when I went to remove the tape after the paint was dry to the touch.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was sent this as a free roll to try and luckily I had some furniture that I was wanting to paint. I used the tape to tape off the area I wanted to paint. Part of the desk was stained and part I wanted to paint. I had laid down my first strip of tape and when I pulled the tape off to re position it, I noticed that the stain was on the tape. The stain is over a year old, so it wasn't like I did it a couple of days ago. It made me nervous and I switched back to the other tape I use. I thought if it pulled this up in just a quick second or two, I cannot imagine what it would pull up is stuck there for a day or two.

I do custom prop painting that requires a tape that covers fine lines but yet doesnt cause patterns, leave residue, or pull off existing paint. This is the best masking tape for short term paint and repaint.

It pulled paint off my ceiling when I removed the tape. I wanted to paint my walls and now I get to paint the ceiling as well! Yaay

We have been using this tape since 2008 and we really live it for all our painting projects! Highly recommend.
