Customer Reviews for GE 30 in. Single Electric Wall Oven Standard Cleaning with Steam in Black

This was purchased to replace an existing GE oven. Installation was relatively easy, and took about an hour including clean up. Old oven had exposed heating elements; this one has recessed heating elements. Also noted this oven is a lot quieter than the previous one. Oven has preheat, and once hot, holds temperature very well and cooks quickly. Steam cleaning seems to break down and loosen most messes. Overall, a good choice in terms of price, and features. So far, very satisfied with this product.

Most of the wall ovens are quite expensive and really all an oven should do is stay as close to the set point temperature as possible. This GE wall oven doesn't have all the "extra" features, but it stays at temperature and costs almost half what most wall ovens cost. One feature that is has is really well thought out, the timer doesn't just chirp once when it goes off, it chirps loudly then softly every ten seconds until you turn it off. Sometimes you just aren't in the kitchen when the timer goes off and you forget. The only feature I am not pleased with so far is the length of time the fan runs after the oven is turned off, but it is not too noisy as some others report. We did have to run it 4 hours at 550 degrees to "bake off" the "new" smell. I installed this oven myself by having the delivery men set the oven on a cart in front of the wall oven opening so I did not have to have anyone help pick it up after connecting the wires I just slid it into place.

Don’t like not being able to turn on oven light from outside oven.

I’m really disappointed in this oven.  It does not have an oven light while baking. That makes the oven unusable. One should’nt open the oven door while baking.   This oven also takes to long to heat up and the fan stays on far too long after you’re done cooking.  Usually GE products are solid, this one is a big disappointment. I wish I could return it for a better GE model.

Great oven, heats well. Only feature I wish it had was an exterior light switch so that I didn't have to open it every time to see the status of what I was cooking.

Steam clean does not work very well; very unhappy with lack of self cleaning.

Oven works well. Do miss an inside light that can be turned on and off while cooking.

Great oven and cooks very evenly and good. I wish it had a light that I could turn on without opening the door but other than that I am very happy.

I am so pleased with my new oven. It heats just right for all my baking needs. I use it all the time because it is so convenient, just set the timer and dinner is ready. Its better than using a crock pot all the time. I would highly recommend this oven. Thank you..

did not notice that it didnt have button to turn on oven light , so i have to open oven door to check on food.

I bought this oven 1 year ago and have had the fire dept. 3 times for smoke. The bottom feature--a flat bottom with no heating element visable means the oven bottom is as hot as a skillet and if your food leaks or overflows--even a small amount it burns and smokes. YUCK!! It also takes a long time to heat up. I'm buying another type of oven. GE hae a cook use this oven for awhile before you decide on a redesign.

This oven is beautiful and does its job nicely. However, it takes about 20 minutes to to heat to 400 degrees. It seems like that's much longer than our prior GE oven.

Our landlord purchased this oven two weeks ago to replace the old one that died. This is the worst oven I have ever used. The temperature is at least 20 degrees off (I have started automatically adding 25 degrees and 2-10 minutes to all my tried and true recipes), nothing browns on the bottoms (muffins, frozen pizzas, cookies, baked cobblers, chicken pot pie).* The not browning is my biggest problem, the others are just minor inconveniences. The preheat time is much longer than our previous oven. I wish I could see the temp as it moves up rather than “Pr3.” I also find it unfathomable that a manufacturer would make an oven without a light switch; the only way to turn on the light is to open the door. There is no self clean feature. The vent on the bottom that blows hot air into my toddler’s face is not dangerous, but I’m not a fan. As I mentioned, there are several things I dislike about the model, but the big thing for me is the total lack of functionality. Nothing crisps on the bottom. Maybe there is something wrong with our individual one. I can say with certainty I am unimpressed.

Oven set to 550* (max) and only heats to 450 and fluctuates down to 430. That type of control ruins everything you bake. No light without having to open the door. It takes about 30 minutes to pre-heat.

Still getting use to switching from gas to electricity. Seems to take a long time to heat up.

We bought a new home and this oven was supplied by the builder. You can’t turn on the oven light unless you open the door, news flash, that lets out the heat which is not good when baking. Next it only has a “Stem Clean” feature that you pour 1 cup of water onto the bottom of the oven and turn on “Stem Clean”. When the cycle is completed you get to wipe out the hot water from the oven and it doesn’t clean a thing. Worst oven I have ever had in 60+ years!!!

IT is not in your best interest to purchase this model of oven. It has no light switch! Can you imagine how embarrassed the designers feel in this omission? Don't share their embarrassment in having to tell your guests that you bought an oven with no light switch. If you have any choice in the matter - buy something else.

Oven came with house. Very basic no features normally found available.

We installed this and haven't used it yet. I'm tempted to send it back as there is no light switch to see inside the oven during cooking. I didn't even know that was a possibility that it might not have one. Who makes an oven without one?!? I'm so frustrated by this. Our old GE oven was awful and we only bought another GE because it fit the space. This is a really odd design move. Not cool.

I had one just like this that we purchased in 1997. We only had to replace the bottom heating element in all of those years. I bake all the time so I used my oven a lot. That's why we bought another GE oven. They are great.

We have had this oven for a little over a month now, and are quite pleased with its performance! The only gripe for me? No oven light to turn on and check what's in the oven while cooking...

Oven is good looking and works well. Very sleak looking and goes with other appliances.

I love the fact that the heater elements are hidden but that also means it takes about 1/2 hour to preheat. Also found out that when the oven says it is done preheating (after about 10-15 minutes), it is not actually at the temperature that you set it for, it just means it is warm enough to put food into. Biggest problem is there is no way to turn on the light inside without opening the door and letting the heat out. I can adjust to that since I am not a baker but cannot recommend this product to bakers.
