Good sturdy box with (almost) everything you need
This socket contains the internal receptacle and flip lid. The only thing you need to add is 4 mounting screws and a single wire nut (and of course the 10/3 cable to take the power top your transfer switch). These items are typically available to anyone doing this type of work so I don't see that as a negative at all. Mounting and installation was easy. Since I was at the limit of my 50' length of cable I mounted the receptacle on the wall after connecting the wire inside the box - giving me more room to work on the connections without having to waste any cable. I then worked back to the transfer switch inside.

Didn’t realize it was a side mount application, but I made the necessary adjustments and it worked fine. Seems sturdy enough.

DOES NOT ACCEPT ALUMINUM WIRE
It should definitely be made more clear in the product description that this plug does not accept aluminum!! I had to order it online, wait for it to be shipped, open the package, and carefully read the directions before I could get an answer. Before ordering, I posted a question about this product here on the Home Depot site, but even the manufacturer's rep couldn't give me a straight answer. After I ran my wire all the way across my basement into the garage, I prepared to install this plug and discovered that it only accepts copper wire. For a 30A 220V circuit, aluminum wire is far more common than copper. At least is it in my area, though wiring codes do vary. My local Home Depot carries much more aluminum options than copper. I finally found a solution to this problem, which is to use a disconnect box that accepts both aluminum and copper. When I went to Home Depot to buy a short piece of copper wire, the employee from the electrical department recommended aluminum and was surprised when I told him that this inlet box does not accept aluminum.

Good temporary inlet
Serves it's purpose as a temporary generator connection but, if your looking for a long term solution for your generator connection this isn't it. Expect weather to be a big factor in the useful life of this device.

Good. all weather input
The design of this input allows the connection to be protected from rain while the power cable is connected. There is also a spring loaded door to protect the connections when not in use.

Product is not legal where I live
Couldn't use it. Metal boxes required where I live.

Cover spring is cheap
After installing on my garage wall, the spring that holds the water-tight cover in place broke after minimal use. Very disappointing!

A few mounting issues
The wall side (back side) of the product has 4 standoffs where the mounting screws go through. So when mounting to something like a j-block, the box stands off from the j-block, water can get down the backside onto the cable, into the house, etc. I resolved this by cutting out the j-block to the outer dimension of the 4 stand offs so that the box would sit flush against the j-block and I can lay a bead of caulk on the top and sides of the box. This leads to the second issue. The wall side (back side) knockouts are set off to each side, past the 4 screw standoffs and past the width of the center section of a j-block. So I wound up having to drill a hole in the center of the back side of the box. Overall this was way more effort than should have been required.

Saves a LOT of trouble & Improves safety
Without an inlet box like this, you wind up with extension cords either through a window or through a door. . With this box on the outside, and a transfer switch inside, I don't have to worry about having the generator close to the house, letting deadly fumes in thru a door or window with extension cords thru it. Connection is easy and the plug is on the bottom of the box which helps to keep water out. A good deal all around and I would reccomend to anyone using a portable generator

OK, But Could Have a Better Design
Does the job but the manufacturer should have made it with a protective cover for the cord/plug when in use; too easy for spashing rain to enter the outlet when in use.

    Easy to Install- Great Value
Easy to install- Front cover was simple to remove, and unscrewed flip lid/inlet to find 6" pigtail for connecting. Lining up screw holes for inlet replacement was easy. Good Instructions.

    Difficult to assemble
The receptacle has to be removed so wires can be terminated. It is very difficult and time consuming to put back together once conductors is attached.
