The assistant in the store was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He took me to the area where the valves were and got me exactly what I needed. When I returned home I opened the packaging and found excellent and easy to follow installation instructions. Having never replaced a valve like this before, I was a bit apprehensive, but thanks to the Home Depot assistant and the thorough instructions that came with the valve, I had the old one out and the new one installed in 30 minutes. Perfect fit, works great and saved a bunch of money. Home Depot scores at the top of my choices every time. They are my number one go to store for all my home repair needs, and here is just another perfect example why. Thanks again Home Depot.

Bought this to match the valves from the original installation, this one to add a zone. It worked exactly as advertised and I'm happy with the performance. It has now been in service for a couple of weeks and all is good.

Rain Bird valve is better than Orbit valve
There have been 4 zones using Rain Bird valves which were installed in my front more than year 20 years ago, 9 zones using Orbit valves which were installed in my back yard 7 years ago. Last year, I was out of town for 2 weeks. When back home, one of sprinkler in the back yard was on. It could not be turned of by any means except turn of the water source. The water bill that month was $1,800+ including $1,700+ for water only. Because nothing wrong for the Rain Bird valves in the front yard. So I replaced defective Orbit valve with a Rain Bird valve. Few months later, 2nd Orbit valve defected. I had to replace it. Then 3rd Orbit valves defected. I decide to replace all 9 Orbit valves. Done with 7, 2 more to go ( see pictures )

Best replacement for Toro irrigation valve
This valve is easy to install with the housing having threads. This allows the installer to thread on one inch PVC pipe prior to complete installation. The housing has very defined instructions and markings which aid in the installation process. This is my sixth valve to purchase and I am replacing the Toro valves that fail. I would definitely recommend this product to everyone. This valve has easy to replace components that make the valve a user friendly model and the replacement parts are readily available. I have several that are working like new but know that working on these valves will be easier than the toro models.

Good valve, good size
This valve fit nicely along with a filter/reducing psi connection into our round irrigation box. Have used this brand before and it has worked well. We use this 3/4-inch valve for our drip system to shrubs, plants, trees, and flowers.

Needed to replace a leaking Inline irrigation Valve, I am stealing parts off this valve to replace a leaking valve since I can’t find replacement parts on the shelf. Kind of a shame that parts are not in the irrigation aisle at HD.

Since I was replacing an identical valve that had piping connected to it, I removed the six screws on the old valve and on the new valve and just replaced the top part. It works great.

The great part of this rainbird valve is that you don’t have to do plumbing to replace the valve. Unscrew the top of the old valve, unscrew the new valve and just replace the guts. Fast…no cutting and replacing the pipes.

These valves have problems shutting off
I have installed a number of these valves now and I would say roughly 10-15% of them do not shut off completely. They seem to be extremely sensitive to the pressure in the line; if it isn't "just right" they stay open. I have had situations where they work properly for a while but then for some reason one of my sprinkler zones will malfunction and they stay on creating flooding and wasting water. I would not rely on these valves.

Response from Rain Bird MarketingFeb 21, 2024
We appreciate your feedback, and I know it can be frustrating when a product doesn't perform to its expectations. If the valve won't turn off with the timer, it may be due to a number of items. First, the solenoid may be burned out. The solenoid should make a distinct "click" when activated. If timer and wiring check out, try unscrewing the solenoid and swapping it with a nearby valve of the same model. Using the "Manual Start" on your timer, check the station again to see if the borrowed solenoid activates the valve. If so, replace the solenoid. Second, the plunger may be clogged, so you'll want to check for dirt impeding its movement. To do this, turn off the water, remove power to the solenoid, and unscrew the solenoid. Sometimes the plunger inside the solenoid can become stuck in the upward position due to dirt in the solenoid. Run water into the solenoid to dislodge dirt. Push a piece of wire into the small hole in the retainer at the bottom of the solenoid to see if the plunger inside will move up and down freely. If not, replace the solenoid. Third, the valve closing mechanism may be stuck in open position due to debris or damage. Check small ports for blockage by debris; rinse and inspect diaphragm and diaphragm seat for dirt or damage. Replace diaphragm if damaged. Fourth, the valve may be set in "Manual On" mode. Be sure the solenoid is tightened into the full clockwise position ("Manual Off") or turn the bleed screw or knob on top of the valve clockwise to tighten. If after checking the aforementioned you're still experiencing issues, we’d love to walk you through the steps to further troubleshoot. Just reach out to our technical support at 1-800-RAIN BIRD (800-724-6247) so we can help.
