Junk!!
I sprayed the product to seal a draft comming from the attic. The foam would not stick in the void and kept falling out.

GREAT STUFF (TM) polyurethane foam sealant products use moisture in the air to cure. They are designed to fill small cracks and gaps with a maximum 3 inch diameter bead. For larger voids we would recommend Froth Pak™ Sealant or Insulation. Do not use GREAT STUFF (TM) sealants to fill enclosed voids such as behind drywall or under tub surrounds.
    Waste of money
This could be a great product but it is too messy to handle and use and is very expensive. If the cans were smaller and cheaper, it might be worth it, but not now. I have tried this a couple of times and wasted almost the whole can each time. I'm done with it. So many bad reviews here.

GREAT STUFF™ straw containers sometimes lack the ability to control the amount of foam dispensed. For more control, please check out our GREAT STUFF Pro ™ Series. GREAT STUFF PRO™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant is a minimal-expanding, single component polyurethane foam sealant for general purpose building envelope air sealing. Designed to fill gaps up to 3" (75 mm), GREAT STUFF PRO™ Gaps & Cracks Insulating Foam Sealant expands to take the shape of cracks and voids, forming a permanent, airtight and water-resistant bond to vinyl, wood and metal surfaces. Simplify foam application with PRO Series foam dispensing guns (PRO 13, PRO 14 and PRO 15). Use GREAT STUFF PRO™ Gun Cleaner to simplify cleanup of uncured polyurethane foam from dispensing guns and work areas.
      Temperature for exterior application
I want to use it to fill gaps outside the house. There is no indication what the lowest temperature is during application. The outside temperature range from zero deg. C at night time to 8 deg. c during the day at this time of the year where I live. Can I apply Great Stuff at this time?
      by
      Response from CIGNov 26, 2013
The contents of GREAT STUFF™ should be as close to room temperature as possible when dispensed. The application temperature should be from 40°F to 120°F (5°C to 50°C).
Good product for a "one time only" application.(all of can must be used)
I used it for filling crackes and joints in the Ductwork of a Home Heating Furnace. This product really expands so it can be used to fill large gaps between Solid Foam Insulation. The downside is that the plastic screw-on "Flow Trigger Valve breaks off easily. It is much too flimsy and with that broke I had to waste about half of the can. I could not get spare triggers/nozzles from the store I bought it from and their attitude was "tough luck". Also, I noticed the product left over in the Discharge Tube dried very solidly and I doubt if I could have used it again even if the trigger had not broke. No warnings about this were given.

GREAT STUFF (TM) polyurethane foam sealant products are one-component foams and do not lend themselves to re-use. Once a can has been used and allowed to sit, it will seal itself shut. One time use should be expected, which is stated on back of can. Here is a tip on how to prolong the use of a can: before starting your project, have a long nail or pipe cleaner with some WD40 handy. Once you are done using the product, saturate the long nail or pipe cleaner with the WD40 and slide that into the straw applicator. Leave the straw attached to the can and store it upright. That can may then restart for you for up to 30 days.
          poor expansion, ran out quickly
the expansion of the material was not what i expected, I tried to fill a 1" gap underneath a bathtub, the foam didnt expand enough to fill the vertical space. also, it ran out much quicker than i had imagined.

GREAT STUFF™ sealants use moisture in the air to cure. They are designed to fill small cracks and gaps. The foam does not cure properly if it is used to fill large voids unless it is put down in layers and allowed to cure before the next layer is applied. Do not use GREAT STUFF™ sealants to fill enclosed voids such as behind drywall or under tub surrounds.
            Poor Delivery System
Can only use one time. Due to the delivery system design it clogs no matter what you try to do. - Leave product in tube and cut for next use = does not work next time - Take off clear handle/hose and spray clean with brake cleaner and shoot compressed air to really clean out = does not work next time Ends up being a huge waste of money unless you intend to utilize the entire product right when it is first used. The company needs to talk with the can vendor or if Dow is also making the can they need to re-design! Will find alternative products to use.

                Great for insulating
Used numerous times to fill gap/cracks, etc. Just wish that either here on the website in product Specifications or on the cans it would say "Contents estimated to fill X amount (square inches or feet) of a standard 16" O.C. 2 X 4 framed wall.

GREAT STUFF™ Big Gap Filler Insulating Foam Sealant is not measured in Square inches or cubic feet. The theoretical yield of one component foams is measured in lineal feet with a 3/8” – ½” diameter bead. A 12 oz can of the GREAT STUFF™ Big Gap Filler has a theoretical yield of 250-300 lineal feet (3/8” diameter bead). The GREAT STUFF™ Big Gap Filler Insulating Foam Sealant was made for cracks and gaps up to 3”. This product was not made to be put in a large or enclosed areas, the foam will not cure correctly.

works great IF it comes out of the can..have returned several
I have purchased several cans, whenIwent to use them a few months later the foam does not come out thru the straw but around the neck. I purchased just 1 and when I tried to use that one.....same thing. I could not get it to come out thru the straw/ I have used some of the cans and when they work they work very good. When I start a project, I want to finish andnot have to drive to the store to get a replacement.

                    Shrinkage
A product description I read said the foam was "no shrink". My application was to use the material for a reusable packing foam for an item I ship a lot. OK I was not using it for what it wa openly intended but thought it would be great packing filler. But, over the period of days I found the material had shrunk about 10 %. A I had a large tight fitting foam mold I found had to several times re-cut the mold on the inside and add padding around the outside.Perhapss it would have not shrunk as much if it had stuck to the outside of the container which I did not allow. But just making a given size of in open space does allow the product to shrink over a multi day period. Would a version other than "Big Gap Filler" have shrunk less?

Good product, but Safety should be highlighted just like it is on cigarettes
It is a very good product however couple of things, very important. 1) The chemical properties are such that settling time is around 10 mins and longer in colder temperatures. Therefore, Do NOT wear cheap gloves , wear nitrile and thicker gloves. And do not hurry to take the gloves off . Once this product gets to your Skin, you are done for 3 days until new skin arrives. Acetone will work, but it is highly dangerous, and I would not recommend anybody keeping Acetone in their house or handling it without proper knowledge. 2) 50% means 50% , DO NOT completely fill, and I mean, not even 75%. The foam will expand with ratio 1: 3 , that means what you see will multiply or expand times 3 (Three). Just a thumb rule. Follow the instructions , DO NOT hurry. 3) Wear Safety glasses. If you dont chose to wear a safety glass then ask your significant other to keep 911 number handy. Because you need a backup plan if you try hard to get it in your eye, or rub your eye with gloves. 4) Make sure the area is well ventilated.

                          Sealing around soil stacks
I have used this product to seal a soil stack at ceiling level in my house. It worked very well for that purpose. After application, just fish a wire through the straw and the valve and you can reuse it easily years later. The only thing is that you should be be very prepared to deal with any spillage from the can.

Please keep in mind that the GREAT STUFF (TM) polyurethane foam sealant will seal itself shut if left sitting after use one time use should be expected. Please try this tip in trying to preserve a can. Inserting a pipe cleaner sprayed with oil lubricant into the applicator may prolong the life of the product up to 30 days, however, it's better to plan ahead, identify and list all possible applications before using the can. Can contents are under pressure. Do not puncture, or place anything down the value of the can. Also these cans have an expiration date, this information can be found on the bottom of the can.

Once the foam has hardened, there are no solvents or chemicals that will disolve it. They will only harm your skin and may discolor the foam. Soak the affected area in warm soapy water for a minimum of 20 minutes to get the foam saturated. Then gently use a pumice/beauty stone to remove the top layer of the foam. You can pick one up at most drugstores. You can repeat that process as often as you want. When you are not soaking the affected area in water, keep it covered with a good thick moisturizing hand lotion or vasoline (petroleum jelly). At night you can cover the affected area with vasoline and wear gloves to bed to keep it moist during the night. GREAT STUFF (TM) polyurethane foam sealant is not harmful, is non toxic, and it will wear off in three or four days.
                              Not impressed!
Out of 4 cans purchased only one actually did a semi decent job. I still have 2 cans left and would return them to the supplier as suggested (large home improvement store) for a refund as they actually sold expired product. However, they do not give refunds for this product, nor will they replace them. So I write off Great Stuff, forever! It was very messy, did not stay where sprayed, after shaking for 2 minutes the foam did not expand, did not adhere to the foundation nor the wood of the foundation. I am sure it is a great product, but I cannot recommend it. Great Stuff so far has only accomplished one thing - - Great Expense.

We are sorry for your inconvenience but it sounds like you are trying to use expired product. If this product is expired then it will not cure properly, adhere to the foundation or wood or expand. We do not recommend using any of our GREAT STUFF™ products when they are expired. If a store sold you expired product then it is the stores responsibility to exchange or refund you. They are suppose to rotate their stock so expired merchandise is not sold.
It's funny that stated on the can, in very small print are the words; "...may seal itself shut, expect 1 time use"!
The competitor claimed future uses if strAW WAS CLEANED WITH ACETONE.

Our product uses air & moisture in the air to cure. If you remove the straw and clean it, you have let air reach the value on the can. This will seal the can shut internally. You can try the following tip on future cans to try and preserve by inserting a pipe cleaner sprayed with oil lubricant into the applicator may prolong the life of the product up to 30 days, however, it's better to plan ahead, identify and list all possible applications before using the can.
Have used big gap filler previously, so did not expect 2 cans bought this summer (expiry date on both May 2013) to fail.
The stem on both cans broke, even tho I applied a slow gradual pressure to the applicator "trigger". Both cans had started to leak where the stem exits the can, but no foam came out of the tube. I shook both cans for more than a minute before I tried to use them - I probably shook the second one for two or three minutes after the first one failed to work. I bought the product at a building supply/hardware store 300 km from where Ilive, and 150 km from my country place where I had planned to use it, so taking it back to the vendor is not practical. It was a waste of money. My fall winterizing job did not get done.

                                        Not good on vertical surfaces
Bought this to fill in space vacated by my elimination of water soaked wood. Product does not stick well on vertical surfaces. It sags and runs. It is also very hard to gauge thickness as product expands unevenly. Since some product didn't stick, it dropped on a good surface and was a mess to clean up. Now I have to cut it out to try and make it even. As far as I'm concerned, its only good for floor type surfaces.

                                          Poor adhesion
I have used Great Stuff many times, primarily the low-expansion Door and Window product. Had to fill some voids in an old shop building that I am renovating. The corners have gaps between the framing and the exterior siding (1x8 redwood shiplap applied vertically). Great Stuff Big Gap Filler seemed perfect, but it would not adhere to the fir framing or the redwood siding. It just kept slumping to the bottom of the openings and spilling out. I think the regular Great Stuff would have done a better job on these 2-inch by 3-inch voids. Now I have to clean up the overspill and try to stuff fiberglass in and around the hardened clumps of foam.

                                            Container keeps failing
I've used this over the years and it works great when it works but in about 50% of the cans, the foam comes out of the top next to the pivot point rather than out of the plastic nozzle. Very frustrating when the product is within the expiration date. I would not recommend to anyone for use unless your supplier is close to where your working and open when you plan to use the product so you can return the broken cans and get replacements.

I love the Dow foams, this one however doesn't quite live up to the promise of filling large holes and gaps. Most of the foam fell back at me once I sprayed. My recommendation is to add wood or rocks to the hole first to give the foam something to adhere too. I have used the foams in the past for set design, it makes great rocks when sprayed on chicken wire

works well. But a couple of things to watch. Buy only what you need for the job at hand. I bought half dozen cans a few months ago and now the stems are frozen and break when trying to activate the foam. The other is the can has to be inverted which makes it difficult to place the foam up high. OTherwise... it's great stuff.
