Great for customizing attic space for storage
If you don't want to have the hassle of cutting plywood to size for your attic, this is a great solution. The grates come in two different sizes for rafter dimensions. Unfortunately an area in my rafters is slightly bigger so the grates will not fit. On one grate I had to cut an area to allow it to fit with a rafter joint. Hacksaw or dremmel will work. The grates are a bit pricey for a 4 pack. The 10 pack is more of a value, but still expensive. IMO could be about $10.00 less.

So far so good...
I installed several 24" as well as 16" in my attic. Installation was very easy. Product is rated for 250 lbs, and I am a pretty big guy, so I always walk on the joists instead of the valleys. I haven't put a lot of weight on them, and what weight I have is pretty well spread out. The only reason I haven't rated 5 stars is because of the weight limit. I am concerned that, over time, a lot of weight will cause sagging.

Well Designed Product for Attics
I needed to work in my attic and provide storage space. My joists are 24" apart, except at the hatch. I had to use wood in that area. Installation is easy, in most cases. Just drop in place and secure.Clear the insulation on the joists first and make sure there are no wires there. If there are wires, you can notch the panel (I don't like cutting into the joists). While laying the panels down, I sealed all cieling openings for wires and boxes with spray foam (makes a BIG difference and will save money on heating and cooling). While up there, I noticed that the insulation installed by the previous owner was very shoddy. A mountain here and barely anything there. So I evened the insulation out, careful not to cover the soffits. These attic panels are very nice looking when installed. I only covered an area about 12'x8'. I also used the panels to extend a path from one side to the other spanning the length of the house to make it easier in the future to get around up there. The panels are not cheap, but if you do it yourself, you're already saving money and if you seal air openings you will save money every year thereafter. The panels are lighter than wood and much easier to handle. When the job is done, it looks very "industrial". The fact that the insulation can breathe is a plus. Finally, since they are open panels (gratings) you can easily add boric acid to the insulation (for pests and mold). I used 64 panels and Home Depot shipped them to me within a few days.

Good for use as a working surface
I bought the panels to use as a standiing surface while working in the attic. Much easier to stand on then trying to balance between rafters.

Great way to finish an old attic!
If you can't fit sheets of plywood up in your attic entryway, or if you prefer the freedom of a grate rather than a flat plywood deck, you'll love this attic floor system. It screws down easily, is easy to cut to fit around rafters, wall studs, electrical wires, etc, and provides solid support for things you don't need to use but a few times a year.
