dies after warranty expires
Just like everyone else. It worked fine when new. Now, it turns lights on at random times. The description on the package is confusing. It's not GE product. It's Jasco product made in China. They just licensed GE logo. I'll try to figure out if this is somehow fixable.

Jack, sorry to hear that the 15086 timer is not working properly. The best thing to do would be to call technical support and see if we can find out why the timer is turning the lights on/off at random times. We don’t receive a lot of calls about this timer failing so we would be interested in knowing exactly what this one is doing.

Product worked great but only lasted about 15 months.
This product looks great and worked like I expected. The problem is, the last one I purchased (different brand) worked for years. This one only lasted roughly 15 months. It just stopped working. I can't even use the manual override. I need to replace this timer but will steer clear of this brand/model.

    Good basic digital timer
I purchased 2 of these timers and both work as expected. If you are looking for a basic programmable timer, then these work well. I used them both for 2 different sets of outdoor lights and it is very convenient to have the lights on if we get home after dark and to not have to worry about turning them off, especially the lights that only have a switch in the garage. Minor complaint, the 5/2 program is hard coded as M-F and S,S. I find that I wish it was S-T and F,S. This is because we stay up later on Friday and Saturday nights, but the lights go off earlier on Friday and then stay on later on Sunday when we are all going to bed to get ready for a new week. Another note, don't use 12:00 as the off time, pick a time either before or after midnight. On Monday mornings, my lights had not turned off due to this and I had to change the time slightly.

Died less than a year after installing
I was given this as a gift and just barely installed it 9 months ago. It died and I can't return it or exchange it! What a terrible product! Thanks GE for putting your name on it!

Mtschaef, did you contact Technical Support after the timer failed? I would recommend calling support and speak to a technician. Jasco Products Tech Support (Manufacturer) GETechSupport
      Good idea bad on execution
Replaced my old school timer because it didn't go with the "look" after we began updating the house. A few months after installing the programmable, the lcd began "fading" so it was difficult to view the program settings. The timer was ok just the program view, so I could bare it. About a year and a half later it has stopped working altogether. The manual switch doesn't work either. How do you get this thing replaced/repaired? Was it discontinued because of defects?

Stan1, the problems that you have with this timer have nothing to do with why it’s no longer manufactured, products are discontinued all of the time that don’t have any issues. The vast majority of these timers have no issues what’s so ever, you just happened to get one that didn’t last as long as the others. This timer has a one year warranty on it so if it’s been more than one year you would need to purchase a new timer. Jasco Products Tech Support (Manufacturer) GETechSupport

Easy to install. Easy to program. Previous one functioned flawlessly for 3 years controlling CFL bulbs.

      Design reliability fault
I my case, as in other reviews below, the timer work for some months then suddenly failed to automatically manage the lights. I used this to automatically operate the front porch light and rarely used the manual on-off feature. Tried to use reset to solve the problem and reprogram but that did not work. There is an apparent design flaw that needs to be corrected to improve reliability and longevity. Until that occurs I would recommend avoiding this timer.

Dyler, without nothing everything that happened at the location it would be impossible to offer any type of support. Out of hundreds of thousands of timers that are produced and sold to have few fail would not be uncommon. Did you happen to contact technical support when the timer failed? Getimernot, did you ever call technical support to walk you through programing the timer? What do you mean that the program didn’t stick? The wire nut is just a standard nut since there should only be two wires being connected. Jasco Products Tech Support (Manufacturer)GETechSupport
        Broke after 2 years
Installed two of those. One lasted only 2 years. Other still works. Previous mechanical timers lasted over a decade and were replaced only for cosmetic reasons.

Will fail in 12 months - guaranteed
Should have read all the reviews before buying. Got three of them, all of them failed within a year. One of them comes on but does not turn off, manual operation works (but this is supposed to be the programmable, right?) Program turns it on but does not turn off. Other one stopped the program completely, only manual operation works. The third one stopped working compeletely. Tried 'Random' function - never worked even when new. Read the package carefully - Made in CHINA. Buy only if you have money to thorw away every year.

NotHappy, did you happen to call technical support when you timers failed? Most times resetting the timers and reprograming will correct these issues. There is no way to tell what happens to the timer once it’s installed in the wall (does the home get hit with a lot of surges? Was it installed correctly the first time)? Guaranteeing that the timer will fail is not a claim that I would make. Place of manufacture also does not guarantee that a product will fail, the timer still has to pass quality standards. I would contact technical support to see if there is anything that can be done for your timers.

        This product is garbage
Seems like I should have read the reviews before buying it. In less than a year it started randomly turning on the attic fan it was hooked up to when the TIMER was on. This would be in the middle of the night. 2 years later when I finally gave up on it the timer wasn't working and would turn on all the time unless I set it to OFF. NO stars if possible.

James, what was the HP of the fan motor? Where was the timer installed (in the attic with the fan or in a hallway below the attic)? If the motor is greater than one horse power then it exceeds the ratings for the timer. If the timer was installed in the attic then the high heat could have play havoc with the electronics of the timer. The timer is to be installed in a climate controlled area of the house. When you first started having problems with the timer did you contact technical support?

Mike, that you for writing the review for the timer model 15086. Sorry to hear that the timer loses the programing and didn’t always turn off? There are a lot of reasons that would cause this to happen and suggest that if it is still happening that you contact technical support for assistance.

GE Timer Switch is working well and good price
At beginning, I connected the source (BLACK), load (RED) terminals wrong to my two black wires. After I found the light can not be turned on, I reverse the two wires. Then, the light can manually be turned on. But the light shut-off after 10 seconds automatically. Another found, that is I was programming the switch in between the start and end time. I found that after one day later. I almost gave up the switch when it kept failing. After it started working from the other day, It works very well... I connected two black, one white, one bare copper wires to the switch. It is very easy to program. The only complain is the small button but it is okay to me.

          Don't buy
Bought this time but it did not work out of the box. Installation is not easy because the wires are strands without the ends being soldered. The result is that they do not connect well with wire nuts provided. It takes a screw driver to pop open the door. Why?

          Fogettaboutit
Guess I was lucky - mine worked for 3 years before it started acting crazy. Now just keeps turning on - won't stay off for more than 5 minutes, even with manual override. Will no longer buy any GE products. (GE Computer mouse just died too - right after the year warranty expired.) Like others have warned - click away from this page - don't waste your money.

            Lasted less than 12 months
I bought 2, one for my front door light and one for my light by the driveway. The switch for the front door is located inside the house and is doing fine. But the other switch is located in the garage and didn't last very long. I think the heat from the garaged didn't help.

Purchased 2 and both failed at 12 months!
Bought first one and it didn't make 12 months, figured it was a fluke. Second one lasted about the same! Tired of programming and rewiring every 12 months!

              Poor quality
Purchased two units 12 to 14 months ago. One still works, the other stopped a few weeks ago. Clearly there is something wrong with the quality of this unit. Way too many similar comments.

                well worth the price
excellant product at great price, print on instructions could be a little bigger, they were hard to read, even w/glasses. otherwise the item was well worth the purchase.

                Don't Bother
If you are considering buying this timer, save yourself some time -- just take your $20 and throw it away right now, and then go buy the Honeywell version instead. I had four of these installed and half failed within 18 months. Pure junk.

                  Works great...for about a year.
Works great but only lasted a year. This is the 5th time I replaced the timer (I have 2 timers side by side). This time I tried another brand. I just installed a Utilitech.

                  Deficient By Design
Mine lasted less than a year; and cannot manual override to use entry lights. Device also seems way to sensitive to line-v power fluctuations and fry's itself. Thanks a lot for that ONCOR! Fairly priced but useless at any price. We need reliability.

                  poor lifetime.
Very easy to install, my home was built in 2007 so the wiring was all in the box. Like most other reviewers here, the switch works very well for about 15 months. I noticed the lights were not coming on but everything was as I programed it. During the 15 months I changed the on time because of longer daylight and the usual EST to DST but it always worked fine. I tried the manual over ride and the lights still did not come on. The manual over ride always worked in the past. Seems like a good idea but the timer seems to go out right after the warranty goes out. After reading how many others had the same problem, I will not repurchase.

                  Waste of money
Read these reviews. Mine broke in 18 months and while it worked, the display was terrible to try to read. This thing is junk, even if it sold for $5 bucks it would be a waste of money.

Only worked for about 14 months
Worked great for a little over a year, then stopped working. I thought my weekend warrior wiring was to blame. I had an electrician check my work when it broke, he said my wiring is fine, it's the timer that gave up the ghost.
