This box installed easily and securely to provide a stable platform for our new ceiling fan. We didn't have to access the attic to install the box, but we did have to get up there to remove the old box which was nailed in place. Make sure you rotate the support bar in the correct direction, or it'll move out of your reach as it extends.

This product is great for working on the first floor of a two-story house. When you're removing an existing ceiling light and want to add a ceiling fan or I have your fixture this is the product you need. All I had to do was removed the fixture remove then remove the Box cut the old bracket out of the way. Slide the new bracket into place turn the mounting bracket to tighten it up against the studs. Installed a new box, install the wiring and hang my ceiling fan and the job is done. I'd recommend this box can anybody unless to hang a ceiling fan or fixture.

Works great! Wish I found this years ago. All you do is cut a 4" hole, slide the bracket up there, center it and twist until it's tight, install the hanging connector, screw in the box and you're done. The trick is to make sure the bracket is centered to the hole and also don't wire through the knock outs that are near the connector screws (you won't have room to screw on the nut).
The box spacing to the drywall opening is perfect which allows for a seamless fixture install to the ceiling.

I wanted to replace the light fixture in one of our bedrooms with a ceiling fan, but once I had the old fixture removed, I quickly realized the existing electrical box was not rated to support a fan and we needed a replacement. The location of the ceiling joists made the 15.5 cu. in. Retrofit Ceiling Fan Saf-T-Brace just the right product to solve this problem.
Installation is a breeze as you simply pass the brace through the hole in the sheetrock, rest it on the sheetrock between the joists, and hand rotate the tube until the teeth lock firmly into each joist. (Ensure that the square end of the tube is over your hole and NOT the expandable side with the screw) You then rest a small bracket over the tube and center over the hole. Next, punch out one of the holes in electrical box, mount it to the bracket, and you’re done!
The only reason I’m rating this product 4 stars instead of 5 is that one of the included bolts was slightly damaged out of the box, but I had another on hand to replace it.
Note: You do not need to have attic access for installation; however, since I do have access, I snapped a couple pictures and verified the installation from that perspective.

When my ceiling fan sagged on one side I took it down to discover the plastic junction box to which it was affixed had cracked and a piece broken off. I saw this product and was a bit intimidated but I did want to fix the fan and not have to go into the attic etc.. Well I bought it and found it to be exactly as advertised and relatively easy to install. The hardest part was getting the wiring and old junction box out of the ceiling without totally destroying the ceiling around the box. I marked the wires and took photos so that I would know which wire went where. Did the install and rehung the fan in about two hours, start to finish. I would recommend this to anyone who has a bit of experience with electricity and basic tools.

Works, but needs improvement
First - there are two versions of this product - one made by Westinghouse and one made by Commerical Electric. Both have similar packaging. I bought this at my local HD and it was the Commerical electric version. DO NOT BUY this unless you need to do your remodel asap. There are better products on the market and if you can find the Westinghouse version, it is better.
The biggest problem with this device - attaching the junction box to the cross member via the small brace is virtually impossible with the screws provided. Do yourself a favor and buy 3 inch screws. On my first install with this product I ended up taping the brace to the cross member and then have 90 minutes of swear words I finally got the junction box secured to the cross member. I vowed to never use this product again. Fast-forward two weeks and the wife wants a light hung asap for a party (we are in the middle of a remodel). I bought this same product from HD in town and luckily, this time I had a small access panel to my attic so I set a brick on top of the brace to hold it down and get the screws in. Once mounted, this product performs great and my fans have zero wobble. But with some small modifications this would be a much better product.

Relocate an octagon electrical box with ease.
Had to center an existing electrical box above my dining room table so new light would be centered. Drilled the 4 inch hole in proper location, fed wires to the new location and installed the locking brace and included box. To say the unit is foolproof is an understatement. Rock solid once tightened! Pretty nice that the unit could be installed with only a 4 inch hole for access!

This is a dependable intuitively easy part to install. It’s been years since I used a similar part. I really like that it made simple, neat and effective what would otherwise be challenging for installing a ceiling mounted fan in my garage where there’s no attic space or access. I reviewed pictures I took of my ceiling when the house was being built so I knew what to expect before I located the access hole. Worst case if you couldn’t do that is that you could simply repair the ceiling and find another location. I used a 4.25” diameter hole saw since that’s what I previously had. That slightly larger size than the 4” hole recommended actually made the installation easier since you end up eyeballing the center of the inserted box and extending supports. It also worked out easier for me to locate the bracket near my ceiling lights so I could draw on that power rather than bring in a longer power connection.

The ceiling fan support worked perfectly. Easy to install in existing hole. I was able to locate the box at the very end of the bar. There is no more wobble when fan is on high.

Just what the doctor ordered
Talk about a simple solution to what could be a large problem when you need to put a ceiling box in a spot that falls between rafters. Incredibly easy to use and rock solid once you get it in place. Saves a trip up into the attic, or gives you options when there's no access to get into a ceiling space. Cannot recommend enough.

No electrical box...no problem
Allowed me to easily replace an existing LED pot light without an electrical box with a new chandelier.
