Customer Reviews for Suncast 125 ft. Aquawinder Auto Rewind Hose Reel

I purchased three of these suncast 125 automatic hose reels. All of the handles on all three of them broke off after using. first they begin to get very stiff to operate the handle back and forth. Then eventually it just breaks off in your hand. I ordered new handles for two of them they proceeded to also break off after using for one summer. Suncast will not stand behind this product so now I am bringing all three of them to the garbage can.Suncast should have recalled this product as it is defective. Do not buy Suncast products as they are junk.

My first one lasted 10 years and I loved it. I only replaced it because I moved into a new house and I like the style of the new hose reel. I am using the same hose on this new hose reel that I used on the old reel for 10 years. One of the plastic gears snapped in about one year with minimal use. I contacted Suncast asking if they could repair or replace it for me but they said they wouldn't help without a receipt and quoted me prices on parts. I believe the first one I had was made by another company and Suncast bought them. This new version is just inferior to the original. I cannot recommend this automatic hose reel anymore.

I've used mine for nearly two decades, and it still works well. I should probably get in there in lube up the moving parts, as I simple placed it on my patio and haven't really touched it since, other than to pull the hose out and water plants, rinse off a car, etc. It still autowinds the hose, and so far nothing has broken. Too bad they no longer carry it... anywhere, I really like mine... and now that I've given it praises, I'm sure in a couple of days it will break. lol

I have gone through multiple aquawinders and itnseems they do jot last more than a couple of years due to cracks or breakage.

This winds up just great, but it is a beast to unwind when you want to water!! No wonder they give you holes to drive spikes in to get it to stay in place! No matter what hose we used it was always a struggle to water things. Save your self the aggravation!!

This innovative design is great. So simple to install and operate. We have had two for over a year and they work flawlessly. You you to just make sure that the hose is straight at the box when you reverse the water flow, to rewind. I am looking to get a third one, but it doesn’t look like anyone has them in stock. Hopefully that is temporary. The newer models say battery operated. That sounds like a really bad idea. Batteries....water...outside...what could go wrong?

I bought 3 units in the past and I bought 1 unit recently back in June. About a month ago. I started experiencing a very hard to move reel. Come to find out after peeking inside the box that all the gears are dislodged. Obviously nothing I did. I've had the 3 other units for 3 years functioning good. This unit was a lemon if it already broke. I contacted Suncast and asked for a replacement unit and all they want to do is send me parts. Who has time to sit here and open this thing up. I could see if the unit was a few years old but it's barely 4 months old. Their customer service is so far subpar and not willing to please a loyal customer that's already bought 3 other units. I would not buy this again. Different brand will have to be. Also, I submitted an online form and they took over a week to respond and that's because I called to follow-up. Otherwise I still would not've heard from anyone. I requested the number to supervisor and a day later they couldn't provide that. How long does it take to get service with Suncast. (smh)

This is a great product I have two that are less than year old. Both of them have the same problem. The lever control for water hose rewind has broke. I kept them lubed. The bad thing is you cant get a new lever. its very easy to take off, but they have replacement part for it.

Have two of these and they are great. However, I learned that if the hose is at an angle to the box and you do nothing but shift the lever to rewind it, it struggles to "pull" hose into the box. I suspect that this causes undo stress on the rewind mechanism, which I assume is plastic. Instead I stand several feet from the box and guide the hose straight into the box. Have had them for a few years and still working perfectly. Was looking to buy another but they are currently out of stock at Home Depot

Poor design: everything is plastic and it starts to deteriorate within a year. Handle broke, water started to leak from the center and the top part of the body detached itself. Suncast says it has 3 year warranty but you need to have the receipt to claim it. Who would save the receipt for 3 years ? They re just ignorant.

4 year owner and worked well until the valve failed recently. An $8 part saved me from purchasing a new one. A simple swap and it works like new. Nothing lasts forever, but the key is taking care of it and doing maintenance to ensure it survives the elements.

Very easy to assemble. Fabulous idea. Doesn’t work so well with a flexible hose. Tends to get tangled up outside of the wheel on the axle shaft. What a job that was, getting the hose undone! Purchased hose guides to help with windup, but that minimally helped. I now feed the hose by hand when rewinding, keeping the cover off to watch for problems.

The new model is much better than the old one. The new pump that rewinds the hose is far superior. It easily reward my 125' hose. I also got a heavier duty hose that does not kink. I am very pleased with the new Suncraft Acquawinder

This device works as claimed ! It keeps the hose packed away neatly in its container that compliments my patio furniture. It also retracts the hose easily .

I like it but sometimes difficult to pull hose out, it sticks. You often have to jerk on it to get the hose out. Winds hose back on nicely.

It came from the store missing parts and had to be returned. It was obviously returned previously by someone else and not checked.

The connection of the hose to the Aquawinder was very easy. The Aquawinder it self is not very heavy. The way that the reel on the bottom is set up, it rewinds the hose back into the aquawinder without any problems. The hose does not get tangled inside the unit. it comes with brackets that you use the mount to the building to keep it from moving. It also comes with a hose extension where the excess water comes out when the hose is winding so that you don't wet. Outstanding product.

Love it! It saves my back. Just switch the lever to rewind and it does its thing. The extra water I use to water the grass or plants nearby. I had bought one last summer from a garage sale for the backyard. I fell in love with it and decided to get one for the front. Durable and does the work for you, especially you have a long hose.

When it works right it's great. My hose had to cut out of the unit when it came off the wheel and wound around the mechanism. Maybe the fault of the hose. It was a mess and now I need to repair a hose. There is no way to get to the mechanics of the rewinder.

Doesn’t work easily. Initial winding of owner provided ⅝” hose was not easy. When selector handle is moved between “release” position and “wind up” position, first the cover and then the handle come apart and fall off. Take up guide vibrates excessively and is noisy at times when in auto rewind position. The concept of operation is very good, but unit is poorly built. Needs improvement.

Compact, easy to use, and I am no longer cursing as I try to wind up my hose and get tangled or wet!

It was a little hard to assemble, but, once I got it together, it worked beautifully. It's great not to have to crank up the hose. It does waste a little water in the rewind process, but I just let the run-off water drain to a large plant.

Worked okay at first, but then it started to jam and now it just won’t wind at all.

Much to difficult to assemble for a garden hose accessory. Instruction include a yellow sheet which says having a problem do not bring back to store call us.
