The quality of the sun shade sail was better than expected for the price. It does a great job keeping us cool in the AZ sun. The set-up is a bit deceiving, it's not an exact square. The measurements for the main shade are 16x16 but then it extends at an angle/slant to where you attach the rope and hooks for hanging. That makes the dimensions for your anchors/posts larger than the 16x16 and you must have the angles exactly square or it sags. Our yard is about 18 feet wide so that the additional clearance needed to stretch the shade taut is just barely enough.

Great product for the price
We've been using this now for a couple months and it's serving its purpose well. It feels like solid quality and definitely better than an umbrella we used to have. Would buy again, but hopefully won't have to.

Well, I have been using mine for about 1 month, so not a long term yet. As most people say, I would suggest you get your own hardware. I used some smaller chain, 3/8x5" eyebolts, and snaphooks to suspend it, so I can adjust or pull it down easily. It is exactly as described, and I have had no problems with it. I have not had to adjust it yet, but I only put it up on weekends. I use it to shade a smaller picnic are for my customers, so we only need it on weekends. It works perfect to shade 2, 8 foot picnic tables.

Great looking sun shade and does the job! We almost get zero shade during the first part of the summer... and can barely enjoy our pool because the sun is blazing. So, I built a custom stainless steel frame to specifically fit this size sun sail (16x16).. and it turned out awesome. I ordered the blue shade.. but, will probably order the other 2 available colors, that way I can change the look at any time. The sun sail does have a seam across one side... but, that doesn't really bother me that much. Also, the shade I received was 16' x 15'-8" (buckle to buckle). That difference in size was not a big deal.. but, wanted to share that in the review. Shade material/buckles seem to be built solid, and should hold up for several years. I do take the sail down when we're not enjoying the pool, or if the wind may exceed 15 to 20+mph. Something else to know... ensure the sail is pulled tight... or it will certainly sag in the middle. Hope you enjoy your shade as much as I do!

      Exactly what we needed...
We have purchased other "shade sails" and what they really are is essentially a big sheet of fabric. They also collect water and blow in wind storms exactly like a sheet of fabric. This is nothing like that. We don't have to worry about our pergola collapsing in on itself because rain goes right through this as does wind, but it offers some much needed shade to our natural swimming pond. The reason I love this product is not only because it does what we needed it too, but it also because it has this shininess to it that is just beautiful and quite unexpected.

Shade at last... I'm loving it!
We installed the deck on our home 8years ago, but hardly ever use it because it's in the open sunshine, which can get pretty warm here in Atlanta. I can't wait to sit in the shade, and read a good book, while enjoying the view of our backyard gardens. I designed the mounting hardware with items I found at Home Depot. The steel poles are top rails for a chain link fence. The brackets are swivel brackets for a cement float. I used concrete anchors to attach the sail to the house. The poles are removable from the brackets, so it is easy to take the sail down if they are predicting bad weather. No ladder needed

      Awsome Money Saving Shade Purchase
I have a typical small backyard that we landscaped with stamped concrete and a perimeter of plants, large potted plants and a 12' by 12' covered patio that cost about $12,000. I still had a large area that needed shade, but was not able to build another covered patio due to cost and city restrictions. I decided to install three 6" steel posts 12' in length, three feet depth as a way to attach the home depot 16' by 16' heavy duty shade cloth. The extra strong eyelets at each corner of the shade cloth made it easy to use short rubber bungee cords that keep the tension of the shade cloth and absorb the stress of high wind bursts. I can easily detach the cloth in winter with carabineer style attachments. This proved to be a very affordable and attractive alternative to a fixed structure,

      What the pictures don't show
What the online picture, and the picture on the box, doesn't show is the 1" wide seam that runs the entire length of the shade 2 ft. out from the edge. So it doesn't have a clean one-piece look. That's deceptive presentation. Some of the hardware is cheap pot-metal but that can be replaced.

I absolutely love my shade sail. Used rope for sailboats on 2 sides with easy release clips and cleats so I can adjust myself (a short female).
I built a little cabin and storage building with NO shade trees nearby, so this shade sail works great - could be a little bigger I guess, but still I love it. It does rain thru it, but that's what I ordered. We used sailboat line on 2 sides and cable on house side - no problems during some heavy rain/wind! Love it.

        Good stuff!
This is a real nice solar sail. It is extremely sturdy. The corners are sort of stretch tapered to better spread the loads to the whole surface. The D rings in the corners are very well attached. The sail comes as a kit with Ring bolts, tough nylon line, and weather proof tighteners, so there is no need to spend $40 on the kit at the bottom of the web page,"What others purchased with this. (Sort of)". I think the sail blocks out just enough light. Under the shade, the temperatures FEEL much cooler, breezes are much more pleasant. We have two. One over our deck and the other over a pool. The pool has stayed cool and refreshing all Summer. Usually it gets bathtub warm by mid-July.

        Sun Shade Sail Modification
I have an oversize Pergola that's great to look at but not very functional without a cover to block the sun. The Sand Square Sun Shade Square was the perfect solution albeit the available size was two feet short of what I needed for full coverage. Solution: The price was very reasonable so I purchased two Sand Square Sun Shade kits. Modification of the second kit was easy using a razor knife for a perfect fit. I now have full shade coverage of my Pergola. I was able to modify the second Sand Square Sun Shade Square for complete sun blockage. I'm enjoying every minute spent sitting beneath my now fully functional Pergola..

Great answer to a sunny problem
Living in the hot, sunny South, seeking shade is a must!! I had a pergola built a year ago for my patio but couldn't enjoy it very much during the Summer months. The shade sail seemed to be the solution. If I could get it installed OVER the pergola, I could still hang pots, etc. from the wooden structure. A friend installed it for me in about an hour. It is hooked under the eaves and attached to the far end of the structure. It is providing much needed shade! Great solution for a very reasonable price. I am very pleased.

Heavy Weight Sun Sail better way to attach
Our Sun Shade arrived with one package of hardware missing and that was a blessing. Forget the hardware that comes with this product. Reading reviews revealed that people struggle with the hardware and sagging being a major problem. Purchase 2 or 4 dock/rope cleats, 2 chain connectors and the appropriate length of twisted poly rope (1/4" with 100+ pounds working load). See photos for where and how to use the chain connectors, cleats and rope. You will be able to remove slack or lower and remove the whole unit in less than 5 minutes. Note: the Shade sail should not have any slack where it attaches to the house--if your anchor points for the Eye lags or Eye bolts can't be spaced to prevent slack--Place one Eye where you can run the rope through the eye and then to a rope cleat to make tight.

        Great value, great shade!
We bought the 12' x 12' blue sail and are very happy with the color-- it's a light, sky blue. The hardware that came with the sail could be of better quality but it's fine for now (may need to be replaced after a season or two). My husband hung it by himself. We downgraded it a star on quality due to the fact that there is a defect in the sail that looks like it had a 10" rip and was sewn up to fix it. Hubby didn't notice until after it was hung, so lay yours out and inspect it before you hang it. But it does provide great, much needed shade and it's a terrific value for the price.

        Solid Value
I put this sunshade over the top of the pergola that I had over my south facing deck. The shade met expectations. The included hardware seemed light but works well. I have it stretched over sanded corners of lumber and after two months it has not ripped and stayed in place despite wind and rain. I'd prefer a more solid color - the blue is pretty muted, almost pastel. It would probably fade in the sun regardless, though. I'd buy this again. The shade it provides makes being outside on my deck a lot more comfortable during the prime sun hours. Even if it lasts only a few summers, that's solid value. I'd give it five stars but it's only two months old.

home depot is one of my all time favorite stores. I feel right at home there with all the helpfful, friendly faces!
I have purchased smaller sails before and the quality is great. I look forward to having my larger one installed for the Florida heat. They really do provide nice shade in addition to keeping my home cooler.

        Good buy!
The shade sail looks good and seems to be well made. Will see over time about durability Reinforced seems are well done and the D rings are fairly heavy and well secured. Just installed today so will see about stretch and sag with time and weather exposure. THROW THE HARDWARE AWAY. Cheap turnbuckles and anchors. Wouldn't even consider using the nylon ropes. Buy some decent turnbuckles, wire rope and anchors. I also recommend anchoring with a pivot and mounting the turnbuckle low so that you can access it conveniently and quickly from the ground. That will make it easy to disconnect in an emergency such as excessively high wind or thunderstorm. (See pic)

Excellent product overall and great value!
This is an excellent product: quality material, strong construction, all the hardware needed, easy to install, very effective in blocking sun but cooling at the same time. The only drawback for me was that it was not a true square of 12 feet. It curves in and measures only 10 feet at the center of each side. That leaves sunny areas on my deck.

          Great Product
A great alternative to more expensive awnings. Just realize the fabric will stretch a little over time and place attachments far enough away to be able to take up slack as time goes on. Most stretch in the first two weeks. We live very close to the beach and get quite bit at times and the shade holds up great. Plenty of give for the high wind thunderstorms.

            Material seems good, execution poor.
It's like they had random pieces of material they seamed together. It was that way on both the 16' square and 16' triangle sails. Also, one turnbuckle broke in half with the first breeze. On the plus side, the turnbuckle broke; the sail did not rip. Good D-rings and they do provide good shade.Time will tell about durability.

Absolutey wonderful! I needed something to shade my deck by the pool that wouldn't blow over like an umbrella would.
I love what this shade sail has done for my back deck. I can enjoy sitting out under it no matter how hot it is. I'm a mailman and i saw one of these on my route and didn't know what is was so I googled "fabric deck covers" and found your shade sail. All of my neighbors are amazed by it. Great product!!!! You should advertise it more.

            Just What We Needed
This product has worked out perfectly for our new patio. It provides excellent shade, allows air flow, and looks great. It appears to be very sturdy and well-made, although we substituted steel cables for the ropes included. It has survived two "monsoon" storms without any difficulties. (Our original free-standing canopy wound up in the neighbor's yard after a storm, despite being tied down to cinder blocks.) We are using the sun shade until we can build an arbor, but once that happens, we will likely move the sun shade to another location in our yard. It's very nice and we can use all the shade we can get here in Mesa, Arizona.

Just as nice as the Coolaroo brand shade sail
I have this shade sail next to a Coolaroo shade sail I bought several years ago. The are basically identical in construction, both keep out the sun the same, the Coolaroo shade has a seam down the center but this one doesn't and yet this sail was a LOT CHEAPER. I would never pay the price again for the Coolaroo again. I would recommend this product!
