This air conditioner was easy to assemble and after using it for two weeks, I give it
five stars

BURNED WIRES BEHIND FACEPLATE
I'm so glad they kept records of past purchases b/c buying a new air conditioner years later and was trying to remember which model this was. The first thing I noticed was the front of unit was cheap, bendable plastic-so I was immediately concerned and very disappointed. Desperation made me keep it, and I had it for less than a year when it started acting up. I can't remember specifics, but stopped working and when I called the store they said to buy a new face plate which would be so easy I could install myself. WRONG. It wasn't as simple as that, however when I did remove the original plate, I saw that the wires were absolutely FRIED and this thing was a definite fire hazard. I will never buy anything from this brand again.

Excellent
Using this for a not-so-well insulated detached garage while the ambient temperature is in the 90s. This unit will bring the temperature down to the 70s in just 30 minutes or so. Only complaint is on the highest fan level, it's a little noisy, but that's too be expected.

dropped before being packaged to ship
Open the undamaged shipping box and put it in the window. Unit seemed alright but noticed that it took an unusual hit in the front. The force broke the bottom 2 tabs holding the control panel. The removable front grill was split in one corner and the surviving tabs were bent to the side and a few broken off completely. Both the shipping and inner box were in perfect condition. The damage must have happened at the factory before it was packaged. And it must have been a good hit to break the control panel loose. Now these are discontinued and I can't get a replacement.

So far, so good.
Bought two of these to replace the 1 and 2 season/throw away Kenmore units I had that were full of black mold. Am impressed with the overall quality, quietness and ventilated outer case on these SPTs. Hopefully, there will be no mold issues. Am a bit disappointed in the cheap styrofoam insulation inside as well as the really bush-league remote. SPT got great reviews and I'm hoping to get much more than only 2 seasons use from them. Wish me luck.

A/C installed at client's house in Pasadena
The unit installed works so perfectly, that the client called me several times and thanked me. Furthermore, he asked me if I can install a second unit in the rear guest house.

Great product, great value!
We have a lake cabin that's an A-frame. It's only 850 sq.ft. but has high ceilings, a large sleeping loft and large windows. Our older 6500 btu in the living room and a 5000 btu in the master bedroom helped with the humidity, but could only drop the temperature more than about 10 -12 degrees. This SPT easily cools the whole place, on low to medium settings. Arriving at a hot closed up cabin requires only about 20 minutes to cool it done to the low to medium 70s. We generally leave it on low during warm days, and it does the job. It is also relatively quiet, especially at the lower fan speeds, which then doesn't interfere with conversation, listening to music and watching tv. A large ceiling fan helps to distribute the cool air, although the a.c. unit has a powerful fan and can pretty much handle it by itself. Right now we have it in a window, but will be "picture framing" it into the wall when we need it next spring. I did a fair amount of internet searching for the best unit & value, and this seemed to be it. We're very pleased with the unit and would buy it again in a heartbeat! It doesn't appear to be stocked by all Home Depots, but they will order it. If you have to, do it... it's worth the wait.

Dissapointed
We bought this A/C unit in the middle of july. When we first installed it I was AMAZED at how cold and powerful it was. I would only have to turn it on for 10 minutes and I would be freezing and have to turn it right back off. About the middle of August I noticed it wasn't even half as cold as it use to be and not nearly as powerful. We thought we might be overworking it so we tried to turn it on as minimal as possible. It is now the beginning of September and nothing has changed. It is still weak. I can stand right in front of the unit now and not even get cold. The fan barely blows too, even on high. EXTREMELY disappointed!! For only having this thing for a month and a half it sure went down hill fast. It still works ok and it helps a little but it doesn't make much of a difference. I think we are going to try and return it or exchange it or something. Maybe we got a lemon. I don't know. But we live in an area that is dry and isn't even that hot- in the summer it might reach the upper 90s but hardly ever breaks 100. I don't think we could have worn it out that fast.

No Complaints
I have no complaints. It is as good as any other air conditioner of same size and efficiency that I have used. However, the one I bought last year of a different brand seemed the same way until we reinstalled it this spring when it would not make cold air. We'll see what this one is like after storing it for the winter. It would be nice if an air conditioner this size and btu's could be lighter. It is a normal weight for an air conditioner of its size, but I remember how big cell phones used to be. I think it can be improved. It is beastly to install these things.

Surprise in a box....
We've purchase several window units over the years dreading each trek we made. However, I can say without a doubt this is the absolute best air conditioner (window unit) that can cool the entire bottom floor of my house on the low setting after initially running it on high to get it cooled for about 3 hours. When you enter the room that it is in,(12x18) you can't stay in it long unless you're wearing a sweater or under a blanket of some sort. The vents adjust perfectly, the filter is easily cleaned and most importantly the installation was completed single handedly. If I ever need to purchase or recommend a window unit this will be the one I go to. Oh,,,The television is nearby and you can hear it loud and clear.
I never heard of the SPT Manufacturing co. before but now that I have, I will certainly be more aware of other products they may have to offer.

dropped at warehouse
The packaging for this air conditioner was just fine, however, when we installed it the fan would not turn. Upon further inspection we realized the it had been dropped-obviously at the warehouse- before it was boxed up. Very disappointed, but ordered another one exactly the same to try again.

Window AC
We purchased a house without air conditioning. After getting quotes to have a central system installed we decided to try to tough it out. After two summers of above average and record heat we decided to try a window ac. We were a little skeptical since we had never had a window unit before. This unit was priced right and easy to install. It may be a little undersized for the area we are trying to cool, but it does a very decent job of keeping us comfortable. It is quiet and trouble free so far. We plan on getting one more of these to put in our upstairs bedroom.

Previous unit was weak.
Works great. Cools down a room with especially tall ceilings. Plenty of power for a studio apartment.

A good little AC Unit
The unit is used in a finished attic area, about 300 sq. ft. It does a good job at keeping the area comfortable with the sun on the roof and outside temp around 90 degrees. The only thing that look real cheap in the inside of the unit is Styrofoam, and the sun shine right thru it. I guess that when it breaks I'll retro-fit a sheet metal interior, with rub-a-tex insulation.

worth it!!!!
I am very satisfied with this purchase. Our home typically a couple degrees hotter than the outside temp. It was absolutely horrible. Now our 1000 sf upper level stays at least 10 degrees cooler than the outside temp. I wish I would have bought is sooner. Its blowing on me right now. Woot woot!! You will not regret it.

Good product
I purchased this window unit because of the good reviews. The company that makes it is not a household name and the price was a bit high.
It sufficiently cools my downstairs which is about 750 square feet. I also use a Lakewood stand fan to move around the air.
It is a little noisy and that is my only complaint.
It does have an energy efficient feature which totally turns off the compressor when a desired temperature is reached.

Solid AC for the price
The AC is strong, I live in a 600 sq ft. studio and it cools it nicely. The remote control has a range from across the room, and there is an energy saver mode which at least makes me feel like I'm saving $. It's a bit louder than average I'd say, and I have it propped by my TV so, it competes a little. If you get a good price on this, I would highly recommend. Also, it's not difficult to install at all.

Pleasantly surprised
SPT was a brand I never heard of. I was doing a lot of research because I was determined to buy a good product. After reading all the reviews about this brand I decied to try it.. I was more than pleased with the delivery, installation, and the effectiveness of this unit. I plan on buying another one for a different room in my house, and have told all my friends about this unit..

Very nice unit for the price
I read many reviews before purchasing this unit and I was a little skeptical of the off-brand name of SPT but this little unit works like a dream and runs fairly quiet for this type of unit.

Less noise and more than does the job
Does a great job of cooling a large area of my house without being very loud and annoying. Easy to install and way less noisy than a GE 12,000 BTU ac unit that we use in another oart of the house.
