I already had one of these routers which I purchased around 10 years ago. Need another to make jobs go faster. Almost identical to the old one except they did improve on the latching mechanism and the handles. I don't like the new switch but one can get use to it. The one design they really messed up on is how the phenolic plate is attached to the base. The old router plate is attached with counter sunk screws that align the center of the plate to the center ofthe collet on the motor, so using a guide bushing, the bit is in the center of the bushing. The new router plate is attached with pan head screws. This method makes it real difficult to align the center of the plate to use a guide bushing. I had to duplicate the old router plate attachment method on the new router plate.

This is router #2, I bought it because the bearings failed on the twenty year old Porter Cable router (repaired and back in the shop) and I needed to finish the job. I now use this router in the plunge base and old router is mounted in a router table. Both give m the versatility to move to the next operation quicker.

I'm a DIY homeowner and my wife picked up my Porter Cable 698 Router table mint condition at a garage sale yesterday for $10 (originally $120 ). This fixed base router fits right on under. This did NOT come with any bolts to mount it, but the manual for the table says the exact size and length of screws to use. It also comes with 2 wrenches for installing and removing the router bits, 2 sized chucks, and in a hard case with a manual about the size of a fold out map of the U.S. You can download the PDF manual from the Porter Cable website if you want too.

Every thing is fine except when I opened the case there was no wrench’s for the collets. Other than that it works great.

Great router. Just bought a second one for my plunge base. THD was $15 more than online but I needed it that day.

It did not meet my expectations. I required a router to fit a router table, and while Porter Cable was specified, it was the wrong model, so I returned it.

This is my 2nd PC router. My first was a PC plunge router, which I still have and still use. This new one I bought because I bought a PC dovetail jig and it is much easier to use with 2 routers. Love my PC tools.

This is a powerful router, yet easy to handle.

It works so far.

Though the pictures on the documentation could be more clear, the router was easy to figure out. I quickly mounted the needed bits and set the height to cut some dovetails in oak like cutting butter.

I have used Porter Cable routers for a lot of years. always a great product and never a problem. I use in commercial woodworking so definitely built to hold up

Difficult to change bit with wrenches provided. Power switch is small and awkward. Collet is low quality.
