Im not sure what you are expecting
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have two of these units as part of several brands that we own due to losing our house AC in the middle of August in Florida several years back. All of the units were instrumental in keeping us cool. They again saved us during hurricane IRMA. Are they perfect? Heck no!! Do they work as expected? Heck yes!!! Are they loud? Yup!!! It is perfect white noise. People who are writing negative reviews have expectations that a portable AC unit would never meet. Some of the negative reviews also reflect folks who don't understand how AC works or that this type of unit has to be sized to the space it is going to be used in no different than a whole house AC unit. Portable AC units are a temporary fix for what should be a temporary problem. Depending where you live and the then current humidity level will determine how much water is being expelled by exhaust and how much needs to be draining into a container (just like a whole house AC unit) . I am in Florida and again without AC in the middle of August. Why - because the level of pride and ownership is extremely hard to find in this country anymore. Now back to the product. We empty water that is draining into pans from the two LG units every 8 hours. We also dump water from every other portable AC unit in the house. I would estimate about 3 - 6 gallons a day. THIS IS EXPECTED!!!! THIS IS HOW AC WORKS!!!! It removes the humidity (WATER). If it didn't you would potentially grow mold along with all kinds of other issues and NEVER BE COMFORTABLE. We currently have 5 portable AC units, 6 fans and 2 dehumidiifers running to keep a 2300 sq. ft. one stry home tolerable while I wait for someone who cares about fixing my whole house unit. Is it perfect - not even close. What other options do we have??? Then add in COVID19 which is causing a major global supply chain disruption and we have a recipe for disaster. I have several products from LG, have always been happy with them. They have been reliable and functional. This is my 2 cents (that I will be contributing to help with the coin shortage)

bought it july 2017 as of today august 2018 , a year and a month later it is failing . Compressor will not stay on for more than 5 minutes , then shutting off for 20+ minutes blowing hot air . Utter crap , low quality Korean junk, believe the one and two star reviews. Pass on this unit design to fail in a year.

This portable air conditioner is exactly what I was looking for. It really cools down the room and the best part about it, it will let you know when you have to clean the filer or drain the water. Not like the others I have experienced in the past that requires once a week. I totally recommend this product if you are reading my review. :)

We've had this unit for 2 years and it works perfectly. Easy to set up. Basically you just take it out of the box and set up the venting to the outside. At the end of the summer you roll it outside and drain it. It works great. We live in a 940 sq.ft. apt. I set it up in the dining/living area and I always set it on Low/Cool and then set the temp as low as it will go, this will actually cool the room faster than the High fan setting. I never use the Dry setting as you have to empty it more often. I put a box fan about 3 to 4 feet in front of it to direct the air down the hall to the bedrooms. On an extremely hot day (100 degrees or over) this unit keeps our whole apt at about 75 to 76 degrees. Pretty good since it says only cools 300 sq. ft.

While a little noisy and a bit undersized for our room, this unit did get us through over a week of near 100 degree days and nights of over 70 degrees until we could get a new AC system installed. It was a real lifesaver.

We bought this last night as our temps are suppose to be near 100° this week. It is being used in an insulated room in our shop, our bedroom. (The rest of the shop is the same temp as outside.) I'm the wife setting this up, 50 something years old, and though it's heavy I managed it just fine. It's on wheels once you get it out of the box. Cut the straps and the whole box lifts off the base - the unit sits on a cardboard & styrofoam base - just lift it a couple inches and set it on the floor. Basically it was just measuring the window and selecting the right pieces to fit the window. One little screw (4 were provided) to hold 2 of the right sized pieces together, set the vent hose in it and give it a good bump to snap it in place, set it in the window with one strip of non adhesive foam between the panels and the horizontal sliding window (plenty more adhesive and non adhesive was provided), attach the other end of the vent hose to the unit and it's done. I was very happy the screen stays in the window - it doesn't even touch it! :) The thing works great! It's in about a 288 sq.ft. room and I have it set to 69° and it's currently 67.7° in there now. It says if you keep it on "cool" mode there is no water to empty out so that is how I have it set. The diagram shows that if you set it to dehumidify ("dry" mode) to pull the hose out (in the back of the unit) and set it in a bucket. Not sure I'll do that. Hotel room air conditioners always dry me out so I figure to not do that. My only complaint is that it is loud! Like too loud to sleep with it on. The fan setting, low vs high, there is very little difference in the noise level. I might nap with it on in the day time but I don't think I'd want to sleep with it on at night. It's intended use is for us and the dogs to have relief from really hot daytime temperatures. It's really easy to opt to have the window open at night since the screen stays in place. Another reason we got this unit is that we'll have a new house soon and this is very portable (room to room) and it will be very easy to resize for different windows depending on the room - it will be very easy to switch rooms and windows.

It's enough to cool a very small room, for the most part. When it's really hot, you'll probably want to just sit in front of it because the stream of air is frustratingly narrow. Bought this one three summers ago because our poorly ventilated apartment was sweltering, and it's a reliable little necessary evil on hot nights. I like the auto-on/off feature, although I wish you could set it to a schedule instead of manually selecting the hours each time. The 2 fan speeds are basically the same, and both are LOUD. Super-duper loud. Like you have to crank the TV's volume all the way up to compete, it's so loud. And the noises it makes are strangely intricate. If you listen to it for a long time when you're falling asleep, you start hearing things in the hum, like how you hear the ocean when you put a shell up to your ear. I'm pretty sure it's trying to brainwash me using subliminal messages. Doesn't help that it looks like a little R2D2 sitting in the corner. It does get the job done, although at a cost, and it's still going strong after 3 summers. All hail our robot overlords. What - who said that?

Let's start with the positive ok. It's stylish, not too large, cools adequately and has wheels. Now allow me to get into it... 1.) The ventilation hose tends to slip out from where it needs to be. 2.) This ac is noisy. Sometime I need to choose between feeling cool and listening to the television. You will need to turn your volume up when using this product. It says if the ac is too noisy, put on a flat surface (tried, but couldn't. (see 3.) Nothing recommended worked. 3.) The drain is positioned in an awkward position. It's at the bottom of the ac. So, what I have done is propped it up on a stool so I don't have to lift it up to take out the water. But my last negative point, is the most annoying and aggravating thing about this product. 4.) The water.OMG I can not talk enough about the water situation with this thing! I literally have to empty the water EVERYDAY it's in use!!! E_V_E_R_Y_D_A_Y. It has been like this since day one. I can't go out like everyone else and come back to enjoy a cool home. NOOOO. Should I try to do so, water will have leaked all over my floor. I bought this thing because my daughter and her friend have a similar model which I fell in love with. They told me they get rid of the water on a monthly basis or less. I have spoken to the reps a few times, both during and after the warranty period about this problem. They never offered to send out anyone to check my ac free of charge during the warranty period. They said I needed to use a hose to get rid of the water. The hose wasn't included when I bought it and nowhere did it say that the hose was required to remove excess water. It did however, say that it could be used in the dry mode. This ac is flawed and they know it. But to not take care of the problems its customers are having is ashamed. I've tried unsuccessfully posting reviews about this twice. Let's see if it gets posted this time.

Great for the price, but . . .
Purchased 9/9 in Florida and can't be happier with purchase thus far. The upside: Portable AC being used on screened porch with vinyl windows - 12 x 20 porch with 10' ceiling. First thing I did was plug it in without connecting exhaust hose to determine if unit was too loud or acceptable. Sorry for those saying it's too loud, but it's actually very quiet compared to my central AC unit and a box fan. Exhaust hose installation was fairly easy considering my vertical windows are 58" tall. Installation accessories covered 54" so open area at top was covered with white duct tape which blends in nicely with window frame. Unit cools room extremely fast considering humidity here 95 early AM and temp 80 by 9:00 am. By late morning room is very comfortable. The downside: water drain plug is very low and unit does not include drain hose. To drain collected water you must unplug unit (not convenient for us), disengage exhaust hose and move to outside door or other convenient place to drain water and then move back to original location, reconnect exhaust hose and electrical plug. Not very convenient. Trying to find appropriate drain hose and connections not easy or convenient. Have given Ace Hardware a challenge, but methinks LG should provide appropriate lower drain hose and connections. Overall, I recommend this unit other than notes stated above.

                  LG Portable AC 10,000 BTU
Initial startup produced an awful rattling vibration. I had to remove the back cover and discovered one copper tube that was to close to the case. As the compressor came on the vibration caused the tube to hit the case. Once I bent the tube carefully away it was fine. Restarting with the case re attached produced no rattling. The unit cooled the 250 Sq. FT room nicely. Because we have casement (crank out ) windows I had a screen assembly modified to accept the exhaust nozzle.

Good air conditioner - loud though
This is a nice air conditioner. I purchased it for my bedroom, where I did not want a window AC. I insulated the exhaust vent and wrapped it in black material so it isn't obvious. Pros: This unit has a nice looking design, is compact, easy to install, efficient, I live in Colorado so we it's mostly dry heat and I don't have to empty the water out of this unit often. We have another brand AC in another area of the house we have to drain daily. Easy to program. I like that it has a remote. Cons: The fan is very loud and the low speed is not much different than the high speed. This may be a con for some.. it makes a noise when you turn it on, off and change any setting. Doesn't come with a drain tube. You're expected to purchase one yourself.

                  Good Enough
I bought this portable air conditioner because my apartment complex doesn't allow outside-the-window air conditioners. I felt the price was very reasonable. The way that my apartment is designed, I had to install the AC in the kitchen window to cool down my living room. This wasn't a problem with the venting hose provided and I liked that I could wheel the AC to face my living room. (My con with the venting hose is that it pops out of the diffuser too easily, so I had to tape it together). The rest of the installation went smoothly. This AC cools down the room quickly, but it is a bit loud.

                    Works well but too noisy
The unit works well enough that it cooled our loft (12'W x 21'L x 7'H) which get over 98degrees in the summer; however, my wife works at home and uses the phone frequently. While her customers cannot hear the A/C, she can. It made it hard for her to hear her customers. It's just too loud for phone use and if you're watching TV, the volume will have to be higher than normal. We'll have to return it or something.

                    Just what we needed!
With the temperature reaching 115 outside, of course our home AC went out and the service man was not available for 2 days. This one room AC unit was our rescue and did the trick. Compact and easily stores away if we need it again in an emergency. Works great for cooling a room in record time, besides being easy to assemble and operate!

                    It's cheap and it works!
I read a bunch of reviews on here before purchasing this product and decided to throw in my 2 cents for the next person. First of all, I noticed several comments addressing the fact that it was noisy, with one person saying you needed to shout to hear a person in the same room, which I would assume that is an exaggeration or the one they got is broken. It makes about as much noise as you would expect from any air conditioner, a low hum and the sound of the air being pushed around. If you stand directly in front of the fan with the air blowing into your face you might have trouble hearing, but that's it. Ours is basically next to our bed and I slept fine with the noise of it, as did my boyfriend. Now the first warning I'm going to give to anyone installing this product is that you should probably put it on a little bedside table of it's own or something up a bit off the floor, and figure out your gameplan for if you need to drain out the tank right off the bat. Ours reached capacity after about 12 hours running on high nonstop. Since then it;s been going for longer periods of time, but that doesn't change the fact that it stopped the first time at about 2 am and we were not prepared to sleepily figure out where and how to drain the tank at that time, ended up trying to move it to the bathtub to empty it, spilling water all over the floor and finally propping it up on the end of the bed and draining it into an empty kitty litter tub that was in our recycling. The drain is on the very bottom back so you need to put the whole thing up a bit to get a container under it to drain the tank (which is otherwise a simple procedure). We have since put it up on a little spare table and keep the tub handy for when we need to drain it, I suggest you figure out a similar setup! The other warning is that the pieces you attach the tube to in the window are very flimsy, and the instructions are pretty useless. The design is pretty poor on that part and we are looking into getting something to insulate it better, since the foam tape provided doesn't really account for the gaping around the thinner parts of the window piece, and I don't really understand why they decided to make the tube attachment pressure fit in that way. It's pretty terrible. If you want something sturdier maybe get some little l-brackets to screw it into the window and something more to insulate it. That being said it's in and it works and we've moved the hose around quite a bit and it hasn't budged. The only other problem is that I can't for the life of me figure out how to make the remote hook up to the air conditioner? The instructions are just like "put the batteries in! you're done." Maybe my batteries are just bad. Maybe I missed something. I have no idea. That being said, it keeps our bedroom cool (in a third floor apartment in LA), and it didn't break our budget. It's simple to set up, and easy to operate. I'd call it a win.

Scratch and Dent worked to my advantage.
In a HUGE bind when the central air went out in my rental house in the Florida Keys. I needed something to chill at least the common area of the house while my landlord worked on replacing the central air condenser unit. This was the only portable unit with 10000 BTU that was not a window unit. I haggled for a good discount since it was missing parts and the last one... Good thing is my adapted duct work seems to be much sturdier than the system that was provided with the system. All it took was a 6" Duct Starter Collar take off (with some adjustments and bending to the fluted end- duct taped to the unit to prevent leaks, and then attached to a 6" Aluminum flex pipe- duct tape and held on with a 7" drive clamp. For my window piece I went with fast and expedient- heavy duty cardboard box designed for moving glass (it just so happened to fit perfectly in my window) with insulation shoved in it. So for less than $20 (plus tax) I was able to make a more sturdy hook up- you could use insulated flexible duct work- which would help with keeping the heat from the exhaust from effecting the thermostat on the unit.

                    Portable AC Keeps Me cool!
The cast rollers on this portable make it moveable on even out carpet, but it'll take a little 'oomph.' It's a little louder than I would like, but - given that I often sleep with a window fan on in the summer - the noise is bearable enough to sleep with. It cools our living area of our apartment mostly decently, though it's not designed for this bigger space, and it works in our small bedrooms just fine. The flexible venting hose set-up that vents outside via the window is a touch clunky when I have to set it aside to access outside things, but it's still quite workable. Would like it to have a more readily understandable readout (when it says 75 degrees, does that mean it's 75 in the room, or that it'll cease cooling at 75?), and that it would shut itself off completely (including the fan) when the proper temp. is reached. All that shuts off then is the cooling element, leaving the fan running. The dehumidifier is lovely, given I live in an often-humid region. The little remote is nice, too, so I don't have to constantly get up to turn the unit on and off. It may not be super-cute (the look is acceptable), but it'll fit in a corner, against a wall, and keep an apartment room COOL. I'm pleased with it, so far, and it's run like a champ.

                    Feed and Bleed
I am a Conditioned Air Contractor II and bought the unit for cooling in my own home while I installed a new system of my own design . LG customer service very poor and UN knowledgeable of their own product . It could have been a home run but engineers blew it . It has a hot air discharge but no air intake to feed the compressor for cooling .. It takes air out of the room to cool itself . It therefore draws a low pressure on the room and pulls hot air from the outside through the rest of the house . .It does not recycle its conditioned air . This is a HUGE false load . This reduces available cooling and efficiency. I seriously question given specifications . Big Orange I love you guys but this makes you look bad . I am trying to modify externally . It is my nature to solve problems . Maybe this is a business opportunity for me. Corporate look me up and call me. GA CN 003634

Supports small rooms well, not medium though.
I have had this unit in both an apartment and home and I have been overall satisfied when using in only a small bedroom, where it keeps the temperature reasonably low. If 90+ outside, the room is around 75 to 77, even when the settings are for 71 or 72. The complaint I have is the variable temperatures and I can only assume its radiant heat coming from the hose as it works to keep the room cool. I have tried to use in a larger room, like 350 sqft, but as it shows in the specifications "about 300 square feet" is supported. Which means if set at 74 degrees and it's 90+ outside, the room reach about 80 on average. Things to consider when choosing your next A/C unit. Mind you I am certain there are newer models now which are more efficient since I think mine is 8 years or so old, still running too, so that's good sign. Just use it in a small room and you'll enjoy it properly. Important to note, as with all portable A/C units, the hose is really short and the kit does not support horizontally opening windows. i.e. windows that slide left or right, not up or down.

                        Does not last
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As I saw in other people's feedback, this unit does not last. I've had it for just under two years. Even when new I had to duct tape the hose to the unit and the hose to the window piece. This week I started getting the FL message. I drained the tank twice in one day and then, right now (at 3am in NYC during a heatwave) the unit just completely died. Have tried to reset it and it is completely dead.

                          Cheap parts
Even when I was using this as a new product the thing falls out of the window the tube falls out of the holder in the two balls out of the back of the machine so basically I’ve got everything duct tape together to hold it in which is ridiculous Yep parts should be more better quality than you’re giving out bad bad LG

This is not the quality we expect from our products. We are sorry to hear that your unit is not functioning as designed. Understandably this is frustrating. Ok for two seasons than total failure in season 3
The AC unit functioned without incident through 2 seasons (4 months in temps between 80-95 degrees). Stored in bedroom off-season. Third season unit control panel would not light up. Multiple sockets later unit still dead. I expected a longer lifespan. Will not buy a second unit from LG.

                              Fills with water EVERY night!
We've had the LG TPW080CR19 portable unit for one year and it has started filling up with water EVERY NIGHT! It will not even run a full night, without turning off at about 3:00 am saying FL...and it is full of water. Granted, we live in the south, and it's humid right now, but not making one full night of cooling (we don't run it during the day) seems ridiculous. We have seet it up for continous draining to see if that will help, but the manual says not to run it under continous draining in cool mode. We'll see what happens. Getting really to kick this one to the curb and buy a window unit.
