Stain covers well. Color looks good. This is our first time using thus product, so we are optomistic that it will last the claimed 8yrs. Reason for 4 out of 5 is the trouble spraying. The stain dries gets a skin/buildup easily and has lots of sediment. Even after 2 pours thru 3 filters, it still caused loss of prime and many clogs while spraying 140+ pickets. Very frustrating and time consuming. For reference, we use a Graco X5 sprayer with 311 tip as recommended by Graco. Switched to 510 tip to finish job.

Outstanding and not just saying that... I used on my personal home 9 years ago and restained this past summer, the color pigment was still so good I had a challenge to see where I stopped each day...could only tell that the sheen was gone not color.

Easy application. Beautiful color as I expected. The square feet estimate was pretty close to accurate.

This stuff is Magic!
My wood deck is 17 years old and really showing its age. It was haphazardly stained once, about 8 years ago. I'm so glad I chose Behr's Waterproofing Stain & Sealer, as it goes on thick and covers the old, tired look of the wood like paint. It's not too thick; just easy to use with brush or spray (I used both), like latex but it never even dripped. I had to get about 4 gallons to do 2 coats and a small fence, but much cheaper than replacing the deck. At first glance my deck looks like composite! It's weathered the summer heat, we'll see how it does through the northern Ohio winter. Great color selection, too.

    Still tacky six days later
I applied two coats six days ago and it’s still tacky. I applied with a 3/8” nap roller and back brushed per directions. A applied the 2nd coat 3 hours later. As a test I stained the hand rails yesterday with a very light coat with a brush. While not tacky today it still doesn’t feel dry. I’m probably going to have to sand it all down and reapply something else. Frustrated and angry.

Hi Gwhiz, thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear the stain is still tacky after a few days of dry time. I can understand your frustration, and I want to help. If you can, I recommend letting the stain dry for a couple more days. However, if you can't wait or additional dry time does not help, you can gently clean the surface using a cloth with dish soap and warm water to remove the tacky residue. Please know customer experience is important to us, and if you need any further assistance, you can reach out to our Customer Care team through our website. They are always happy to help! -Christina Behr
Good stain. I sprayed 13 gallons on a new construction fence and am very pleased with it. I applied 2 coats and ot covered well and looks great! About 250 feet of fence .

Got a little nervous after the first coat when I saw the brush marks. Works more like a paint than a stain. Gotta keep that brush moving. After the second coat it looked pretty good! I applied it over some redwood planks.

Great coverage and easy to apply. It was used on Douglas fir and remained tacky for 3 days.

Nice stain, sem-transparent great to bring out wood grain a little. I used this on a fence cover for my AC compressor. Easy to mix and went on great. Rain ready in 4 hours which was nice. The one quirk with this stain is you need to be consistent with it, thin/thick areas will show.

The deck was old and took more stain than expected, but the product covered well. So far it seems pretty tough, too, though it's only been a few weeks.

      Leaf stains all over
It is the first time that we have used solid color for our deck. Just after one month my deck/steps are completely covered with leaf stains. I cannot keep up with sweeping the deck. Very disappointed.

Hi Gerperus, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the stains on your deck. To fix this, I recommend cleaning the surface with our All-In-One Wood Cleaner. If needed, you can touch up or recoat this area following the second spread rate. Please keep in mind that leaves can contain tannins and can stain the coating if left on the deck for long periods or during rain. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! - Randy Behr
Great product, but certainly not cheap in price. Used a large pump sprayer to apply but had to clean nozzle several times. Fence looks great, but time will tell how effective it is.

Great solid stain. Quick to dry and smooth a finish. Overall happy with how it turned out.

            HELP! New mildew problem
This spring I spent weeks cleaning, power washing, and sanding all of the surfaces of a very large deck and fence prior to staining it. I purchased 14 gallons of this product and to be honest, it looked fantastic. Now after about 4 months I've got mildew all over the deck on the flat surfaces where it had never been before. I spot cleaned it but it's deeply embedded in the wood. I have no idea what to do and I don't want to have to sand and spend more money to restain after only a few months!

              Colors aren’t correct
This is the 3rd batch of Behr stain I’ve tried. It’s been a complete waste of time and money, but most of all a waste of strength and energy due to the work involved in sanding, washing, and re-staining. The colors are never correct. I’m attaching a photo of the color I received. It’s certainly not the Chestnut color as shown in the online product description or in the brochures in stores. Looks like Cedar. The sheen is also spotty even after the product has been thoroughly shaken and stirred.

Hi MeMe, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear about the color issues that you're having. This is not normal, and I can understand your disappointment. Nearly white, not grey. Dries almost instantly so if you get a drop on the wrong spot you’re screwed. Does not behave like stain- more like fast drying paint. Be aware, we use behr products frequently but will never use solid stain again

Hi TL, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that the color did not turn out as expected, and that the stain was drying too fast. This is not typical, and I can understand your disappointment. Typically, if the stain dries too fast, you can add 4 oz. of water per gallon to slow down the dry time. We appreciate your feedback and if you need further assistance, please reach out to us directly. Our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Giovanna Behr

The paint was very even and easy to apply to my old boards. The coverage was good and two different cans produced even results. Highly recommended!

A Two Day Project That Paid Off!
We decided to go with wooden railings instead of aluminum railings on our composite decking due to cost. I wanted a modern look similar to the aluminum railings and this Slate color is a perfect pitch black that is NOT transparent, it’s as solid black in color as the aluminum balusters are! Never painted railings before, so I researched and put 2 solid days of effort into the project; day 1 using the Behr cleaning solvent and a deck scrub brush, and day 2 painting/staining!

                  Worst deck product out there
My dream deck that I spend thousands of dollars on is now a pile of junk. I have not been able to enjoy the summer. I have spent almost $600 trying to remove it and havent replaced the boards it didn't protect and cracked. Pressure washed stripped w berh like the 1st time, sanded and Palm sanded. Berh stated they will maybe cover some product only. sent paint chip samples in? Remember, this stuff is so time consuming and very expensive. Very disappointing. Pay for your product you stand behind

It has sticky, rubbery and weat feeling. Takes longer to get dry. It has true waterproof properties, hides wood imperfections really well and looks premium

Hi there, thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that your stain is sticky, rubbery, and seems to have a wet feeling. That is not typical. Our Solid Color Waterproofing Stain & Sealer should be completely dry and cured after about 72 hours. However, high humidity can extend the dry time. To fix the stain, I recommend letting that dry for a week with as little foot traffic as possible. If that does not resolve the issue or you cannot give it the additional time to dry, you can gently wash the coating with soap and water after 72 hours to remove that. Customer satisfaction is important to us, and we appreciate your feedback. Please reach out to us directly if you need further assistance; our Customer Care team is happy to help! -Lina Behr

Great stain! Easily applied with roller and brush. Cleans up with soap and water. This is on a deck where there's full sun, it's worked fine on my awning post.

                    3-yrs Later
Applied about 11 gallons to pine siding which had weathered with a different product coating for over 20 years. Power washed first. Now, 3-years later the finish has held up extremely well and could imagine it will easily make it to 10.
