Good Product - Works for me
Okay this product works for me. But a couple of points: Background - My deck is 14 yrs. old, I had a red oak stain that's fading on cedar wood. Product application - I recommend using a wide hand held brush to apply the solution and it's ok to add more rather than less. Power washing - You're gonna have to go over it several times but the first it to thoroughly wet it. Then go over it at pretty close range with the recommended PSI, I'm talking 3-4 inches. That's what I found to be effective. But you gotta be careful with old and rotted wood. I have a video but that's not allowed in this um... out dated old school review system. Closing thoughts - I could not find a good review so I decided to do my best here to provide one. You should find this product to meet your expectation. Check out my attached pics.

This product was fantastic for the project at hand. Stripping a deck. Just follow the directions. MAKE SURE YOUR STAIN IS ACRYLIC! I used a pump sprayer to spray on. Power wash it off. That simple. I had multiple layers of cracking peeling stain. Now down to bare wood. Clean slate for a new stain.

I purchased this product to remove the Rustoleum Restore deck coating that had failed on my deck after 1 year, I used 2 1/2 of the 4 gallons and got little to no success at all. I had better luck (not much) with a 3700 PSI pressure washer but that of course damaged the wood so I had to find another alternative. After searching I found the Diamabrush for decks attachment for an angle grinder, it does strip off the restore coating as well as other dings, dents, staings, paint, etc. and leaves the wood smooth and ready to stain. Fair warning though the Diamabrush's are $50 a piece and I used 3 of them to strip my 20x30 deck.

That doesn't sound right! Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover is a ready-to-use, premium quality, exterior wood stripper for all types of acrylic deck and siding stains. For the best results, we recommend working on 20 square feet at a time to maintain optimum surface wetness, apply product and let sit for 15 minutes. If the stripper dries prematurely, it is essential to keep it wet with additional product as needed. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

    amazing product
I have a1800 sq ft two layer deck, which had a dark brown solid stain on it. Moreover, I had completely ignored my deck for the past 4 years, which made matters worse with mould etc. Then I used ASR.. it worked like magic. I used a gallon for every 80 to 100 sq ft or so, since the deck was really bad... but now it looks like new. I highly recommend this product.

I never write reviews and rarely read them. I've tried many strippers scrubbing from my hands and knees with little success. I tried this only because it said I could spray on and power wash off. It did exactly that, although I used a stiff bristle broom anyway to loosen up the finish first. I instantly knew this stuff works. My flaking uneven deck finish is 90% back to the bare wood in one day. It used exactly what it said, 150 ft per gallon and I used a case of 4. I'm glad I didn't pay someone to sand it.

        RESTORE DECK STAIN NO MORE!
I made the BIG mistake of using Restore Deck Stain (the thick stuff) on my deck last summer. I decided I did not like it and wanted it gone. I went to the Restore website to find out what they recommend to remove it and this is it. I applied according to directions. I let it set longer than 15 minutes, even a day. I also used the rolls of plastic used for painting to cover the deck. I borrowed a 3000psi Power Washer and the stain easily came off. It did not all come off the first time, maybe because I had 2 layers of stain on. I just kept working on it until it all came off, but it did take about a weeks worth of days at 3 to 3 1/2 a day for a 12x18 deck. Now all that is left to conquer is the sides of the deck and the posts, so next year I can have my deck restained with a better product.

I followed instructions to this product and to no avail it would not remove paint or stain. The paint didn't even bubble up as if I basically soaked the paint in water. I just wish I could get my money back $90 buck gone and now I have 4 gallons of this snake oil taking up space.

          Doesn't work on deck coatings
Not sure what kind of deck coating was used on my deck previously but this product didn't work on it. I tried leaving it on 15 minutes, I tried 30 minutes and I even did a section for 45 minutes then power washed it at 1900 psi. Removed bits of it at a time but not enough to make a significant dent in the coating. Probably going to resort to sanding.

We appreciate your feedback, GH. There's a good chance that your previous coating may not have been an acrylic (water-based) coating. The Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR is designed to remove acrylic coatings off the deck, but may not be as effective with removal of a different type of product. If your previous coating does not come off, it is possible to recoat over it as it's considered sound. If you choose a Rust-Oleum product, we suggest use of the RockSolid Deck Start Primer before moving forward. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-RockSolid-1-gal-Deck-Start-Exterior-Wood-Primer-Clear-312283/307428127 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1 Rustoleum

That's odd! To ensure the desired results, Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover needs to be allowed to sit on the surface for at least 15 minutes. Extra product may need to be applied if the stripper starts to dry prior to removing. If using a hose to help remove the stripper, a stiff, synthetic, short-bristle broom or brush will also need to be used to aid with removal.

Disappointed. Wanted to use to remove Rustoleum Restore 4X off my wooden deck. I used Wolman as per instructions and let it soak on the boards, That just what it did, it never penetrated into the deck boards. When I power washed, there was no removal of the Rustoleum Restore 4X. Word to the wise, Wolman DeckStrip ASR may not be the product for removing Rustoleum Restore 4X off a wooden deck.

Please keep in mind, Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover needs to sit on the surface for at least 15 minutes and needs to be kept wet with additional product if it does soak into the boards. We also recommend not applying in direct sunlight as this can also prematurely evaporate the stripper.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I bought this product from Rustoleum to take off the crappy deck over product that didn't work. So I was sucked into this product by the same company to take it off. It does not come off with a power washer as the directions say. Not even at a 15 degree nozzle! It did soften up some of it to use a scraper by hand. Had to resort to using a stand up and a palm sander to remove the paint.

That is odd! A synthetic bristle brush or mop, pump sprayer, or airless sprayer (with no aluminum parts) is recommended for the best results with Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR. We suggest working on 20 square feet at a time to maintain optimum surface wetness, apply product and let sit for 15 minutes. If the stripper dries prematurely, keep it wet with additional product as needed. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 5 Rustoleum

I used a heavy coat of premium solid stain twice within the last 3-4 years and now have severe peeling. This said it would remove solid stain. I followed the directions for 15-30 minutes of keeping it wet. Didn't do much. Resorting to a sander now with 3-1/2 gallons of remover left over!!

That is not what we like to hear, Dixie! Our Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover should work on most stains in about 15 minutes, however, some coatings may require more time to allow the stripper to penetrate and lift the coating from the surface. We recommend working in small sections, and keeping the surface wet; in some cases, multiple application may be needed for complete removal. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 2 Rustoleum

That's odd, James! Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover is suitable for use with acrylic/latex solid and semi-solid stains, including those labeled 100% acrylic. Please keep in mind, the stain must remain wet with the product to ensure proper removal. More stripper will need to be added if it dries prematurely. To rinse the product, we recommend using a pressure washer or a hose and stiff bristle brush.

This is not what we expect to hear, Jay! For the best results, Rust-Oleum Wolman DeckStrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover must be allowed to sit on the surface for at least 15 minutes. While the stripper is penetrating, it must remain wet and additional product can be used to maintain the surface wetness. When rising, we recommend using a pressure washer or a brush and a hose.

Thank you for your feedback, Steve! Please keep in mind that older or more stubborn stains may need a second application of Rust-Oleum Wolman Deckstrip ASR Acrylic Stain Remover. Since the cedar may be more porous than the pressure treated wood, the stain may have penetrated more onto the surface.

I was told this would remove the Rustoleum Restore product we put on our deck about 8 years ago.The only thing this product did was slightly soften it. After power washing most required using a hand scraper to remove. Don’t waste your time/money if Rustoleum restore is what you’re using it for.

Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like the Rust-Oleum Restore was bonding well to the surface which is why the Wolman DeckStrip-ASR Acrylic Stain Remover is having some difficulty removing the product. Another application may be required to try to help loosen what's bonding tightly. We appreciate your feedback! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1 Rustoleum

My deck was a mess. My old stain was peeling badly. Only alternative was a total strip. No one wanted to do it for me so I decided to take it on myself. My deck is 10x30. I’ll be 81 years old in August. We were getting rain every couple days so I worked on dry days. In a week it was bare wood.
