Great while it lasted 7 yo and it went in fire. The microwave was excellent until about 7 years in the front top fell off the handle peeling and the unit shot out flames when using the microwave feature Unit was used properly

Cheap handle that peels!
A beautiful style but the handle is made of horribly cheap material that peels off and looks tacky. This is our second handle and now we need a third. The price for replacement is ridiculous. It should never need replacing at all in my opinion. Can’t even get replacement part because it’s out of stock. That is probably because every is buying them for the same reason.

Works nice
Oven work great, although I have yet to use all the bells and whistles. Disappointedly the chrome on the microwave handle started to peel off after a couple of months. I am truly disappointed by that.

Excellent appearance
Have had the Cafe microwave installed in a little over a week. Are still learning some of new features. It is replacing our GE Advantium oven which was over 14 years old which needed a new inside the microwave bulb. Will update the new microwave after we have used it for a while.

Cheaply made
Very disappointed in the quality. Overall oven works great but the handle started peeling and it makes the product look very cheap. Also can not find a replacement handle which is also disappointing. I do not understand why the handle material is not the same as my Fridge and stove which are also Cafe models. Very disappointed.

What a let down! Very disappointed =(

Peeling Handle
The quality of the over the range microwave/convection oven is horribly disappointing. You are led to believe the handle is stainless steel when in reality it is plastic wrapped with a paper product. The paper started wrinkling and is now peeling off. Tonight I grabbed the handle and some of the paper fell off into my food on the cooktop below. I am finally disgusted enough to write this review. The paper stickers around my GE cafe free standing gas oven burner controls are now wrinkling. I suppose they will be peeling next. Please evaluate carefully before purchasing.

Handle Peels
We bought this microwave two years ago. Within 6 months, the handle started to peel. It is made of plastic, yet, it is made to sit above a stove. We have a brand new kitchen, and my microwave makes the kitchen look shabby.

Handle Peels
The quality of this microwave is subpar for the price. The microwave handle is plastic with a stainless steel colored sticker covering it. It is peeling after only 2 years of use. The peeling is exacerbated by the handle sitting directly over the most powerful burner on the GE cafe gas stove which it is designed to go with below.

Handle is peeling, flakes falling into food while cooking, cuts from sharp edge of peeling material. Looks like material underneath is plastic. My cafe stove has metal handle, why skimp on handle on microwave!

Microwave works, HORRIBLE part quality
We bought this Microwave just under 3 years ago, and for the past year the "faux chrome" around the handle has been peeling. We attempted to contact GE through emails in the past but to no avail. The worst part is the handle is made to look and feel like it's chrome and nobody ever tells you that this "Over-the-range" Microwave can't actually be over the range because clearly the fake garbage handle can't handle the heat. On top of that just in general all of the parts are absolute garbage, the top part that is used for venting is made up of plastic that could break or snap from someone just poking it. I wish I was here to give this product a good review, and if not for the quality of the parts I would have nothing negative to say.

Little Beauty!

Display is too dim and the handle is peeling.
The feature are fine and the exhaust is top notch. My display is so dim it is near impossible to read during the day. It is ok at night. It has been this way since it was first installed. The handle is peeling now and it looks like it will be an expensive repair. Is there a newer model that fits the same space and has a similar exhaust?

All 30" Over-the-Range Microwaves are approximately the same width and are designed to fit into a 30" wide cabinet opening. Very unsatisfied
This is my second microwave where the panel just stopped working. Very very strange! In addition to this product my dishwasher rusted inside and cleans poorly. Not good products.

Crapped out again.
Don’t buy. Our first one got recalled and now this one has broken twice. Once again the panel just randomly stopped working. Same thing happened in the recall version. It would be great if GE could replace this for me on their dime since it has the same issue as my recalled oven.

Magnetron issue
This will be the second time in 5 years I have had to have the magnetron replaced in my GE Cafe convection microwave oven. I think they just don’t make anything to last for years anymore. As a major retail company, I wish they would guarantee their products to last. If they can’t make a product with a guarantee promise, that says to me, the company doesn’t believe in their product(s). It’s a shame I could’ve spent less money on a fleet of appliances and probably wouldn’t have the repair issues associated with GE Cafe appliances I bought. It’s just my opinion…there are many options and opinions, this is mine.

Cheap plastic components everywhere
This microwave is extremely annoying to use: you have to press "time cook" then rotate the knob, press it in, then you can finally press "start". But even worse, this microwave is mostly constructed out of cheap plastic junk. Our unit is 4 years old, and here are the broken parts:
- Plastic tabs holding the top bar (with the GE logo on it) on the microwave. Replacement costs about 1/8 of a new microwave, for this cheap plastic bar covered in stainless steel.
- Door switches. Replacement costs should be cheap here if I can find something second-hand.
- Door latch hardware, which snapped since we keep having to open/close the door due to the bad switches.
My advice? Avoid it.

Stopped Working at 9 yrs
This microwave was a replacement for a GE that failed at 3 yrs. GE told me that the expected life of their products is 5 yrs, which was disappointing that they don't have high standards on the quality and durability of their products. I guess I should be "thankful" I got extra years on a pricey product. the handle never had issues like other reviews but the venting has always been underwhelming and the washable metal filters are a poor design. The light bulbs are outrageous priced, too. Their customer service was good back then but I am moving on to another brand.

Horrible microwave
Microwave vents steam out the front top panel causing the cabinet door above it to warp and the paint blister. Have to open cabinet door every time we use the microwave now. It is only a few months old. Horrible engineering and design.

It sounds like the microwave may have been installed incorrectly. The microwave is made for 13" deep cabinets. This provides over 2" of clearance so that air does not blow on to the cabinet fronts. If you have deeper cabinets, a bump out kit will be required.
