  • Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice
  • November 23, 2011
  • Recommended Product

First Installed this Kiddie M/N# KN-COSM-B combo smoke/CO alarm in October of 2004. It worked fine the entire time it was installed. it uses (3) AA batteries not the typical 9V. The voice prompts (when testing and low battery) are clear and loud enough to hear easily. On the negative side, It hit it's built in expiration date the night before last at 3AM. (7 years and 1 month after the initial installation) Would be nice if they could build it to last 10 years - but then i guess they'd sell less of them because I plan to buy another..Excerpt from the owners manual about built-in end-of-life countdown timer included below...(from page 5)• After seven (7) years of cumulative power up, this unitwill “chirp” every 30 seconds. This is an "operational endof life" feature which will indicate that it is time to replacethe alarm.

  • 7 yr lifespan, worth price

mine just went out last week, after 7 years of faithful service, with no malfunctions along the way. Kiddie makes a great detector, and they have never let me down. This is a great buy, but they do have an even better model out now. This time around, I will be upgrading to the li-ion battery version with a 10 year lifespan ... that's three extra years of expected life, and no batteries to change, plus you get to keep all the same features. And at about $10-$15 more than the standard AAA version, the "higher" price really just buys all those AAA's that you won't need to install... saving you time, and putting less batteries in a landfill!!

Pros: Easy to Use, Lots of Features, Clear Instructions, Nice Design, Easy Installation, warns you of low battery Cons: has batteries to change

  • Kidde CO/Fire works perfectly!
  • August 12, 2013

I replaced my Kidde CO/fire alarms after I had a CO problem in my apartment. Woke me up (loudly) when I was sleeping and the alarm system made sure I was safe! Excellent product. The voice alarm for which aspect is alarming is very useful since I was feeling pretty disorientated. Only good things to say about this!

Pros: Easy to Use, Great Sound Quality, Loud, Compact, Easy Replacement, Battery Length, Clear Instructions, Nice Design, Easy Installation

Put one of these units in 5 years ago. Last month the carbon monoxide alarm went off. Called the gas company they came and couldn't find a problem, suggested the alarm was bad. So I bought a new one. That one went off too and after they returned again they found the the heat exchanger on my furnace was cracked and putting co2 into the house. So the sensor saved my family. If you don't have one in your house, get one.

Pros: Battery Length, Loud, Great Sound Quality, Easy Installation

As a career firefighter, I recommend this detector to residents off the record. I have two of these in my house and have never had any false alarms. Well worth the price for the combo. This product could save your life

We think the one's We have saved our lives the other night when the hot-water heater vent pipe caused fumes to fill the house, shortly after We retired for bed. We awoke with 2 beeping and stating that there was a carbon monoxide warning. We opened all windows and doors and shut off the gas line to the water heater and after 2 hours were able to go back to bed when the threat was over. "Thanks to Kidde" Pat & Etta P.

  • Very Good

The Kidde Battery Combination and Carbon Monoxide Alarm with Voice Alert is a very good device when trying to protect your home from fire or carbon monoxide. The voice feature and alarm are loud enough to be heard throughout the house. The one flaw is the smoke detector is so sensitive that the alarm goes off almost every time you cook. I do not mind because I rather have my family and property safe than sorry.

  • This product is easy to install.

I purchased this product to replace an expired smoke detector in a family room containing a fire place. This unit was very easy to install with basic tools found in any home and has a front panel that makes battery replacement a snap. The unit is neutral color and blends in well. It does not give false alarms as many units I have owned in the past did. I highly recommend this unit.

Pros: Clear Instructions, Easy Installation

  • Frequent False Alarms
  • December 05, 2011

I purchased this item to replace a wired in model. It worked fine for two months and then began alarming occasionally. I cleaned the detector by vacuum and pressurized air, but it alarmed again after a week. It has done that several times. I have added other alarms to validate that there is no CO present. This item appears to be overly sensitive to dust or other particles.

This is just what we needed. My Dad can no longer hear any high pitched sound (such as the alarm), however, he can still hear sounds in the human voice range so he can hear the "voice alert".The only suggestion to the manufacturer would be to make the voice a little louder or put a volume control on the device.
