A: Hello Ben L - Zircon products are designed and engineered in California, with critical components sourced in the USA. Finished products are assembled, packaged and shipped from global facilities as close as possible to the local markets.
A: Hello Chris. Due to the metal mesh in stucco the Zircon stud sensor will not work on stucco. Thank you.
A: Hello Mike. The HD70 will not scan through concrete and does not have a metal scan mode. Please contact our tech support through the Zircon website and we will help you to choose the correct tool for your application. Thank you.
A: Hello. StudSensors are unable to calibrate properly through lath and plaster walls and as a result are unable to identify studs. The best way to locate studs behind lath and plaster walls is to use a tool with metal detection capability to find the nails holding the lath to the studs. The HD800 is a stud sensor with a metal scan mode which would accomplish this. Thank you
A: Returned to Home Depot. Not impressed. My 10 year old Stanley stud finder was just as accurate.
A: Likely. Be sure to hit the On button twice to set it to Deep Scan and then be patient as it calibrates what's below the surface.
A: Hello Lyman. Scanning through bathroom tile can be problematic depending on the type of tile and the construction techniques used in the particular bathroom. If the construction behind the tile contains certain types of insulation, has dense backing or irregular thickness normal stud scanning or deep scanning may not be effective or reliable and so is not recommended. Zircon® recommends you use a scanning tool with metal scan capabilities, like the HD800 Using a metal scanner you can scan and map the nails that hold the wall board to the studs. The nails will be vertically stacked in fairly regular intervals. When you have mapped out a stud, use a thin drill bit through the grout line on the tile wall to verify you're drilling into a stud. If the bathroom wall you're scanning has an opposite side that is a normal wall (i.e. a bedroom or hall), you can use the normal stud scan mode to find the studs on the opposite side of the tiled bathroom surface. Then you can transfer the measurements over. If you have any further questions please contact us through the Zircon website. Thank you
A: I dont think so
A: Yes this will help you locate the studs so you attach the bar. It won't give you the exact same reading each time so do multiple passes and mark each one to get a better idea of the center of the stud.
A: Yes, Zircon stud sensors can be used on ceilings. Thank you.
A: Yes, the ceiling construction is usually horizontal ceiling joist with sheetrock attached in the same manner as vertical wall studs with sheetrock attached. The difference may be a textured finish applied to the ceiling sheetrock in most homes. It is definitely easier to use the stud finder or a smooth vertical wall, but it will work on the ceiling with a little more effort. In my case, I tried using a thin piece of cardboard held against the "popcorn" finish on my ceiling and sliding the stud finder over it with limited results. For finding a single ceiling joist, that worked, but I wanted to mark all the joists in the room for a remodel job, so I dry scrapped all the "popcorn" texture off with a wide putty knife (messy) then used the stud finder. The smoother ceiling surface made it much easier to find all the joists with the stud finder. Ceilings are a lot rougher on the neck, so take your time.
A: Yes as long as it is a stud and sheetrock construction.
A: I have a different brand, BUT it should work on ANY surface as long as you have firm contact with the sensor to the wall OR the ceiling. As the store clerk who is working the hardware section to verify this.
A: Yes
A: Hello Jim, Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. After review Zircon recommends the use of a brand new 9V battery. Also we have links with helpful information is in the Info and guides section on the products page. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future. - From the HD team
A: The HD70 takes a 9 volt battery. These batteries are getting a little harder to find but still available since a large number of older smoke detectors use them. It takes a lot of power to do what the HD79 will do, so a lower voltage wouldn't be as effective.
A: 9 volt
A: one 9V battery, NOT included
A: 9v alkaline.

If the construction behind the tile contains certain types of insulation, has dense backing or irregular thickness, normal stud scanning or deep scanning may not be effective or reliable. Zircon® recommends you use a scanning tool with metal scan capabilities like the HD800. Using the HD800 in metal scan mode you can scan and map the nails that hold the backing for the tile to the studs. Check out Zircon’s website for detailed instructions on lath and plaster stud finding technique. This technique is the same for finding studs behind tile. Thank you
A: Yes. I have used it many times to install grab bars.
A: I have not tried it on tile yet but it works great with sheetrock. I will try it and post the information.
A: I don't think so is very limited, even tough, has a deep scan mode
A: Yes. It has two modes. Standard scan and deep scan mode. Deep scan will work fine.
