A: This will detect a leak no matter where it is coming from. However, the leaked water MUST flow or accumulate toward and make contact with this sensor. The two sensor wire contacts are on the bottom of the module and it is sensitive. You can test the module by wetting your finger and touching the two sensor contacts and it will alarm. To turn it off, just dry the two contacts.
A: It has the leak sensor on one of its flat surfaces, so it is possible to have that side pressed against the pipe to detect the leak. I have 4 of them, one each laying on the floor of my kitchen cabinet, my bathroom cabinets, & inside my water heater pan.
A: It can respond to a leak from any source. The unit has two electrodes on the back/bottom, and when they come in contact with water, the alarm sounds. It is meant to sit under a sink or on the floor in an area where you might have water accumulate from a leak. I have one in the pan under my washing machine, and another in the pan under my water heater. The hole you see is where the little speaker sits, and is for the alarm sound to get our. It is not meant to go around a pipe.
A: Hello Mercy. No, the Leak Alert will not pinpoint a pipe that the leak is coming from. It will detect a leak and alert you to it. Thank you.
A: The two wire probes on the sensor have to both make contact with moisture to detect a leak. So you put the sensor on a flat surface below the pipe that may eventually leak. Hope that helps.
A: The alarm beeps when water touches it so it works well under a kitchen or bathroom sink since you use those rooms frequently. I'm not sure it would be loud enough in a basement to attract attention to it. It would depend on how your house is configured.
A: It's very good. Does the job
A: Hello. Barbie. You can place the Leak Alert next to your sump pump. It will sound an alarm and let you know as soon as the sump pump over flows and the water touches the contacts on the Leak Alert. Thank you.
A: Yes Make sure unit is placed so contacts are where water will collect. Unit also floats
A: I would place it right next to the sump pump or the sump's cover plate, at the lowest spot. You could pour a little water around the cover to see where the water drains to, the lowest spot or the slope and then once the sump starts to overfill, it should drain in that direction so it would initiate the alarm soonest. The alarm is about the decibel level of a smoke alarm. So you should hear it depending on the noise level upstairs where you live, do you have thick carpet and padding upstairs, how loud is your TV, children, etc. You could also get in the habit of opening your basement door in the morning and evening just to listen or check it more frequently if it is raining outside. There are also other methods of alarming, depending on your skill levels.
A: Yes. I just installed a new dishwasher in one of my apartments and added this plus a dishwasher catch/drip pan. Drip pans are available onlline. On mine I also added a 1/4" bead of caulk to act as a dam so any leakage would puddle first before leaaking out onto the floor. This way, I guarantee my alarm would see water before it leaked out onto the floor. Without this pan and "dam", a small leak could occur and run out onto the floor and miss the detector and never alarm. See photo.
A: I see no reason why it wouldn't, IF you could actually get it underneath. I wouldn't be able to get it under mine, but that's a great idea!
A: Yes. It should work as long as you have clearance. It senses water on the floor. I use it under the sink. sometimes it leaks when dish washer runs. It has warned me 2-3 times so far and hasn’t missed. Hope it helps.
A: Hello Mark. As long as the sensors contacts are not touching metal and the unit can lay flat there should be no problem. Thank you.
A: The unit is about as small as a pack of cigarettes, so it should easily fit under a dishwasher. The is actually a lot more room on the floor under most dishwashers than you might expect.
A: Yes, just dry it off.
A: Hello. Yes. You just need to dry the unit off (make sure the contact wires are thoroughly dry). You can take the battery out while you do this so the unit stops beeping. When you finish drying it replace the battery and place the unit where you need it. Thank you.
A: It resets automatically when the bottom leads are not connected by the wetness..
A: Yes, just dry off the contacts and it should work again repeatedly.
A: Mine was laying flat when it went off during a flooded basement/broken pipe situation.
A: IT SHOULD BE PLACED FLAT DOWN ON BACK SIDE
A: Yes, I have all of my installed laying down on thier basck. The sensor conacts wrasp around two sides so it can be positioned either way.
A: Haven't tired it but there's no reason to believe it won't unless ti shorts out by being immersed in water. The leads are on the bottom to early detect the wet surface, so it should be in that orientation if at all possible.
A: Hello. The Leak Alert should be placed flat on the floor in the area near the possibility of a leak such as behind a toilet or by a hot water tank. Thank you.
A: Hello. We would like to trouble shoot your Leak Alert with you so please contact us at 800-245-9265 mon-fri, 8am-5pm PDT so we can help you resolve the problem. Thank you.
A: It has 2 electrodes on the bottom/back. When they are both in contact with water, the alarm sounds. It does not detect water from a distance.
A: It must be in contact wet a wet surface to activate the sensor, such as on the floor of your kitchen or bathroom cabinet.
A: It needs to be on the bottom surface when the water will accumulate so the leads will be connected. You can set it off to test by wetting the tips of your finger & touching across the 2 leads.
A: Hello. The Leak Alert has two metal contacts that extend from the side to the bottom of the unit. These contacts must come in direct contact with water for the Leak Alert to sound the alarm. You will want to place the unit as close to the source as possible to alert you of a leak as soon as it happens. Thank you.
A: Hello ck. Yes the Leak Alert does have a low battery alert. In the event of a low battery, the Leak Alert will chirp (short beep every five seconds). Please replace with brand new 9V battery immediately. Thanks
How can we help?
