Q:Can this be used to seal wallpaper, if painting over old wallpaper that won’t remove?

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help! Since Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Binding Sealer is water-based, we do not recommend it for use over wallpaper, as it can reactivate the adhesive. If wanting to seal the surface and any residual adhesive, we recommend using Rust-Oleum Zinsser Gardz Problem Surface Sealer instead. Make sure any loose wallpaper is removed.

Answer This Question
A: If the wall is peeling itself (as in the drywall or wall material is compromised), the Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Clear Water-Based Binding Sealer will not necessarily help with that, Tony. If you have a previously painted surface that needs to be binding down, a chalky surface, or need to bind cracking, this product will work for you! - Rust-Oleum Product Support 1

Q:How do I know if a previous plant is oil based?

Answer This Question
A: Thank you for reaching out, Janice! Rust-Oleum Zinsser Peel Stop Clear Binding Primer can be applied over oil or water-based paints. If wanting to confirm the paint type, you would need to reach out to the paint manufacture or check the clean-up method on the can for the paint. If a solvent needs to be used, that typically will indicate that the paint is oil or solvent-based. Water-based paints will typically need to be cleaned up with soap and water.

Q:Will this be the best product to adhere to badly weathered wood siding, very gray with most of the paint worn away?

Answer This Question
A: Happy to help, Kurt! Zinsser Peel Stop Clear Binding Primer is designed for binding down peeling, cracking, chipping paint, it is not suitable for priming gray weathered wood. We recommend removing any remaining paint, then treat the wood with a wood brightener, such as Wolman Deck & Fence Brightener. When the wood is dry, prime with Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Water Based Primer or Zinsser Cover Stain Primer.
