Answer This Question

A:  Happy to clear things up! While Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer can be applied to exterior wood surfaces, we do not recommend it for use on decks due to the foot-traffic these areas receive. For exterior decks, we recommend Rust-Oleum RockSolid 6X Deck Coating. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-RockSolid-1-Gal-Gray-Exterior-6X-Deck-Coat-319638/307428163 - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3

A:  Happy to clear things up, Todd! While Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer can be applied to previously painted surfaces, this product will not accept a stain if it is penetrating. Q:Can I use this as a primer to update on marble around a whirlpool tub? If it can be used, then I would paint a semi gloss water base paint for the final finish.

                Answer This Question

A:  We appreciate your interest, Lois! While Rust-Oleum Zinsser Cover Stain Oil-Based Primer will adhere to most surfaces, it is not intended for use on marble. We also do not recommend this primer for use in a tub, as the constant exposure to moisture and humidity will cause it to blister and peel. At this time, we do not have a primer or paint that we can recommend for this type of application. - Rust-Oleum Product Support 3
