Q:What's the difference between this item and this other breaker? https://www.homedepot.com/p/Connecticut-Electric-New-VPKUBIZ-Thin-15-15-Amp-3-4-in-1-Pole-Zinsco-Twin-R3815-Replacement-Circuit-Breaker-VPKUBIZ1515/100056356

      Answer This Question

A:  The only difference is in the packaging. The VPK versions are packaged in a sealed plastic clamshell for storefronts while the non-VPK versions are just the breaker by itself. The actual circuit breaker is the same for both SKUs but Home Depot stocks both and often sets their own price.

A:  Yes, Zinsco breakers have been frequently used with aluminum wire since the mid 1960s. Many of those houses that haven't burned down still have Zinsco breakers.

Q:If the busbars are damage can the be repaired without changing out the entire box?
          by|Apr 7, 2017

          Answer This Question

A:  The bus bars in your Zinsco panel (or Zinsco style Sylvania panel) are tin plated aluminum. If they are damaged it's because they are burnt. Zinsco panels are known for this and are also a known fire hazard. Any attempted repair would just be temporary. You really should be replacing the panel soon.

A:  Usually not and better long term repair to replace the box.

Q:I am looking to replace a burned out Zinsco circuit breaker (Type RC38AL) 40degrees C. Will this be the correct replacement - Zinsco 30 Amp 3/4 in. Duplex Single-Pole Type Z UBI Replacement Circuit Breaker
            by|Mar 8, 2017
            1 Answer
            Answer This Question

A:  This breaker might fit your panel, but I want to caution you to inspect the aluminum busbars carefully, many times they are damaged when the old breaker burns up. The issue with Zinsco usually is the contact between the breaker and the busbars which permanently damages the aluminum busbars. Another issue is that this is a 30 amp tandem single pole breaker. The NEC limits 120 volt single pole circuits for lighting and receptacles to no more than 20 amps. You probably should be looking for a 20 amp tandem single pole breaker. You probably should start a fund to replace that obsolete panel, it is obsolete for good reason.

A:  No, this breaker does not remedy the fire issue with Zinsco panels, it is merely a replacement for a bad breaker.

A:  No it does not, I had a short in a wire and the zinsco breaker burned a hole in it and never tripped.

Q:Is this double pole 3/4 inch thick
              by|Dec 29, 2015

              Answer This Question

A:  This breaker is 3/4" thick, but it isn't a double pole. This is a tandem single pole breaker. It provides two 30A, 120 volt circuits in a single 3/4" space.
