The rod is not adjustable in the sense of how a straight traditional tension-mount rod (the kind that don't need to be screwed into a wall for example) will often have an adjustable range that you can extend or contract the shower rod tube to fit; however, this rod can be shortened if needed on both the longer and shorter parts of the rod (in other words, either of the parts that make up the "L" shape!). This can be done with any standard hacksaw, and the installation instructions included with the rod give very detailed (and illustrated) examples of how to do this. There is only one portion of the rod that tapers, but that portion is placed in between two other portions that attach to the brackets, so it does not affect the rod's diameter.
