Q:I need a FOAM that will kill fruit flies in my garbage disposal. More of an insecticide. My guess is that this will not work on them. Had them before in an apartment in complex and a guy came in with an insecticide foam and it worked great.

A:  Hi, FFhater! The fruit flies are attracted to the debris and build-up in drains. The Zep Foaming Garbage Disposal Cleaner is designed to clean and deodorize garbage disposals and kitchen sink foul odors. Use the Zep Drain Defense Pipe Buildup Remover, an enzymatic formula designed to attack and eliminate the build-up in sinks, garbage disposals, bath tubs, shower drains and grease traps. After use of 3-day treatment, you will notice a reduction in fruit flies and drain odor. The Zep Drain Defense will also guard against future drain clogs. I hope this information is of help. A:  yes this product can be used in a dishwasher

A:  No, this is not meant for dishwashers. The foam disintegrates and probably won't reach the drain hoses in your dishwasher. It is meant to clean blades in garbage disposals as well as kitchen sinks.

A:  It wouldn't really be effective. If you have already made sure the filter in the bottom of you dishwasher is clean, you should try a dishwasher cleaner. We have hard-ish water so I periodically use Lemi Shine dishwasher cleaner and it does a great job. (make sure it's the cleaner, they have several products, most stores carry them) Afterward the washer always looks like new and smells great.

A:  I'm not exactly sure, but my guess is that it is safe, due to the fact that the smell is very mild, not strong or toxic smelling in the least.

Q:Does this help kill fruit flies in the drain

              Answer This Question

A:  This is not an insecticide. If you have flies in the disposer it could be due to improper plumbing allowing sewer flies (which look very much like fruit flies) or too much food waste residue in the actual disposer. I suggest running several trays of ice cubes thru the disposer. This should not harm the disposer and is a good way to dislodge stubborn particles that remain in the disposer. After that, fill the sink with very hot water with bleach added and run that thru the disposer. This does a great job of softening fats and starches that may be stuck inside the disposer. Finally a liberal application of this foaming cleaner will leave things smelling nice. If this doesn't work, contact your plumber. Something may be improperly installed.

A:  It may kill flies IN the drain as it is being applied, but I wouldn't recommend it for that purpose.

A:  Return it to the store and demonstrate the clog. Then ask for a refund. They will be able to weigh it or just know by holding it, that it is a nearly full can.

A:  I have the same problem. What to do is rate this product low on here, email the manufacturer, and not buy again.

                by|Mar 5, 2019

A:  Run hot water over the spray head. Shake the can and try it again.
