A:  Candelabra base is the small base - so pick a small base. The bulb styles can be chosen according to preference - radio bulb (tubular style) goes well with the cylinder glass on the light. 40 watt works well because the width of the 40 watt radio bulb is only 1" - a good clearance space from the glass cylinder of the light (when you go to 60 watt, the width of the bulb jumps to 1.5" which may be too wide for the glass cylinder as you want a decent clearance from the glass tube of the light.
