A:  BabaRum, I just bought some of these myself and am about to use them - they work with a 4 9/16" split-jamb pre-hung door so it can be used in a 6 9/16" wall. When you separate the two halves of a split-jamb door, one half has this finger-looking side (with casing and trim) and the other has a u-shaped receiver for it, on the side with the door and hinges. I'm pretty sure that you will basically discard the finger side (save the trim!) that was supplied with the door, use this instead into the receiving side, and then install the trim casing over top of this.

A:  This piece is meant to be used with a mating/receiving jamb that will allow you to extend the jamb further. 4" inch do you mean 4' feet wide?

A:  If the door is prehung with the case separate the jamb hang the side with the door measure from opening in the door side jamb to face of drywall on the side of the jamb that is not installed. Add 1/4 inch to that measurement and RIP down the extended jamb b side to that install and attach casing.
