A:  Thank you for your question. The ground convenience outlet covers this hole and is recommended to be installed. This lantern post gets hard-wired to existing wiring. We do not offer another option to block off this hole.

A:  This lantern is rated for use in wet locations.

A:  The ground convenience outlet is at the top of the pole.

A:  The outlet is located at the bottom of the pole.

A:  The post's metal is approximately 1/16" thick.

A:  It is approximately .050" thick or a little less than 1/16"

A:  This fixture has a 5 year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. The limited warranty does not cover acts of nature, corrosion (rust) and discoloration of components, nor does it cover damages cause from abuse, improper installation, surges in electric current or acts of third party. There is no way to determine when and where rust may occur.
