A: Hi! Due to size of the grill, your options may be limited, but you could smoke on a Smokey-Joe. Thanks!
A: kind of a generic answer but theoretically you can smoke with any grill. just soak your wood flavoring in water over night, wrap up in several layers of foil, pop a few holes in it, throw it in on the grill.
A: Absolutely. I just got the grill and did a 2.5 pork shoulder the next day. Came out perfect. Just remember you don't want to go to big because you'll run into issues closing the lid.
A: You probably could but would be difficult.
A: Do not soak your wood in water unless u want steamed meat. Just throw it on the grill.
A: yes
A: No not really
A: It certainly can if the concern is that whether its legs will ever convey heat to the surface of the table (assuming everything is in a stable position), and they will not in my own experience. In any case, if the plan is to leave the little grill unattended while hot, safety always goes first: Keep it safely away from risks of fire (or melting in this case if a gust wind make it flip)
A: I do not recommend placing this on a plastic table to cook, as it sits on its leg and the body of the kettle is only 5 inches above its platform it sits on. Also the ashtray holder is about 2 1/2 inches off of the platform you place it on.I would only use this on a stone table or on the ground.
A: I definitely would not use this on a plastic table. Expected temps of at least 300 degrees and higher. Hot charcoal pieces could escape and melt plastic or set it aflame.
A: Yes, it can.
A: I don't recommend setting it on a plastic table. It gets hot. You can use it on a concrete picnic table like you find in camping areas. You can also set it on the ground. We love ours. Great for grilling steaks, chops, burgers. It has enough space for 4 servings. Very easy to clean up and stow away.
A: No. It would get too hot.
A: Hello! As a matter of safety, please do not place the grill on a combustible surface. Thank you!
A: Hi Mary! No, our wood handle Smokey Joe portable grills have been discontinued. Thanks!
A: No, plastic only, Sometimes I use a potholder when lifting the lid, because the plastic handle conducts heat and can burn your hand.
A: No. it does not
A: Yes excelent
A: I have not seen a wood handle since my first kettle back in 2006. I believe they are all the heat resistant vinyl.. My friend did recently whittle down some wood and made a new wood handle for his kettle grill..
A: No
A: The weber website has all you ever need for this and any other grill https://weber.mizecx.com/knowledge/s3/retrieve?path=knowledge/WEBER_AG/57972/57972.pdf
A: It’s very easy to use. The build of the grill is super easy.
A: Hello! Congrats on your new grill! You would be able to access the assembly guide, as well as the owner's guide, in the support section of our website. Thanks!
A: Super easy to put together. Took 5 minutes.
A: I ordered it on line & the store assembled it for me!
A: No, no handles. The only handle is on the lid on the top. Ours just stays where it is while hot.
A: The 14" Weber Smokey Joe "Portable" Charcoal Grill in Black does not have side handles. I could not find a place where side handles can be attached. The 22" and up grills do have side handles.
A: No but it cools very quickly and if you use oven mits you can just pick it up and move it because it weighs almost nothing. There is a carrying bag for it for transport
A: No handles on the side
A: Hi, for safety reasons we would advise against moving any grill while it is in operation. Thanks!
A: I tried beer butt smoked chicken. the height of the chicken standing was too tall for the lid to close all the way. Still came out great! I just closed the lid vent all the way and let the smoke escape from the gap between lid and grill body.
A: Hello! No, the clearance between the cooking grate and lid on this model is not tall enough to stand up a whole chicken. Thanks.
A: Yes its big enough to cook a whole chicken ,and big enough for 4 Steaks
A: Yes, a whole chicken would definitely fit on this grill.
A: Yes, no problem
A: It doesn’t lock, but close tide enough. Doesn’t have a a way to move it safety when hot.
A: Hello, no, the lid on this model does not lock onto the base. We highly advise against ever attempting to move a grill while it is hot. Thanks.
A: No it does not.
A: No
A: Hi Mom! No, the lid does not lock onto the base of the grille.
A: No it doesn’t That would be a good update I take mine with me and just to transport would be nice.
A: No, but this is small grill and easy to move - I regularly grill a couple hamburgers, then right after I pull them off (lid already set aside) set aside cooking grill (I usually have starter chimney there and so set it on top), I then grab one of the three legs (I do have large man hands for what thats worth) and pair of charcoal tongs and walk it over to burn pit I have and using tongs to grab a hold of charcoal grate dump the whole thing over into pit to let hot coals and ash burn out. Easy peasy - of course no reputable manufacturer is going to recommend this as it is highly likely one could get killed by grizzly bear or a falling tree while doing such. The point is the legs are well designed and can be grabbed while grill is hot - yes you will obviously burn yourself badly if you touch the black metal grill body or dump the hot coals on your foot, but the end of the legs away from the body where they touch the surface upon which the grill sits are quite cool as one would expect (grills are not designed to catch the table top on fire when in use).
A: No it does not. I bought the Weber Portable Grill Table for it that locks the grill to the table. Then I just move the table with ease. The table has removable legs that self store in the table compact storage.
A: Hello SQ! You can place this model onto non-flammable and non-combustible surfaces, so a wrought iron table should not pose any issues. Thanks!
A: Yes. This grille has legs which will keep heat far enough from the table surface. I have actually used my Smokey Joe grill on a wooded picnic table with no problems
A: I only use it on the floor. My wrought iron table decor style would make it unstable and too close to the cloth umbrella; so no, I would not use on a wrought iron table. Thanks.
A: careful of the legs falling into design. won't hurt table
A: I would think so in that it does have the ash tray, which keeps hot ashes from falling onto the work surface.
A: Yes it would be safe to use it
A: Absolutely. We've used ours for 3 years on a wrought iron table and never had a problem.
A: several inches off ground. recommend small table as it is not very high (top to bottom)
A: yes it's very safe
A: Hello, we do not recommend using this grill within five feet of any combustible material, including a wooden deck. Thanks.
A: We have our Smokey Joe sitting on a 16" X 16" brick paver, on top of a flat wooden bench. We haven't had any problems. The belly of the kettle sits about 4" from the brick paver.
A: I guess it is safe enough for a wooden deck if you don't have sparks flying all over the place. It sits about 6 inches off the ground. I have it atop a table. Who wants to bend down to flip chicken pieces? !
A: 6 to 8 inches
A: I bought this last summer for a vacation for a mini/portable fire pit. Works like a charm and the beauty is being able to also grill with it. Regardless of your use, being able to put the cover on it is great. Highly recommend. However, I would not use it on a deck or wood - it is too low
A: You can but don't overload it. I would use wood chips to cook something quickly, like a burger party or steak. Charcoal bricketts last longer. I would recommend using charcoal.
A: Hi Jim! You would be able to use wood chips to add flavor to your food! We would recommend soaking the wood chips for at least 30 minutes and then adding them to the hot coals. Thanks!
A: You can but it’s not very effective. I have put wood chips on the charcoal and smoked some chicken wings. They were ok but this grill is so small that having a hot side and cool side on the 14” grate is not easy to accomplish. I would recommend this grill for burgers or anything that cooks relatively quick. I do not recommend it for any foods that you desire to cook low and slow.
A: I have never tried it but I was able to find this answer online... Can you use wood chips in a charcoal grill? But there's another way to add great barbecued flavor to food – by using wood chips to smoke your food. ... Soak the wood chips for about two hours. Then put the moist wood chips in a smoker box attachment on gas grills or directly on the coals for charcoal barbecues. It's that simple!
A: Hello yes you can burn wood chips
