A:  These were my second set. I wore out the first set after many, many years cooking. You use them for indirect cooking. They hook onto the charcoal rack, as the coals burn away some coals might fall thru, but other than that, they work fantastic. Well worth the money. I hope this was helpful

A:  Hi Dave, Although I have never used these rails with my grill, they hook around one of the lower grate side rails which enables them to stand upright as shown in the picture. It's possible they are not compatible with all models. Presumably the weight of the coals make the rails stand upright easier and contains the coals between the inside wall of the grill and the wire frame of the rails. Then you have extra coals ready when needed. Adding these extra coals is easier if you have a grill where the sides of the upper cooking surfaces swing up and open and the middle is completely removable though. I normally just use the baskets. Not only are they movable, but they can be used to hold extra coals, wood chips or cook food through indirect heat.

A:  Getting the rails in place, you have to drop some coals inside grill first then add rails.

A:  Charcoal is irregularly shaped and doesn't need much support to keep it in place. Unlike a fixed metal box, these rails can be placed anywhere on the grate to create a stack space for the amount of charcoal the cook needs for that grill session. The size of the drip pan usually determines their placement however. This minimal design also allows the ash to fall through. My set lasted over 25 years and was replaced only because one got lost in my move.

A:  Hi! The Charcoal Rails hook on to the prongs of the grate and hold the charcoal to the side of the bowl for indirect grilling. Thanks!

A:  I am a user of this since 1972. The rails keep the brickets contained just fine. The rails clip to the bottom grate of a 22" kettle. I position the rails so that the aluminum pans (Weber brand) fit between the rails. You get about 6 pans in the package. You stack the charcoal to the outside of the rail(fill the space between the rails and the kettle wall). You wind up with two charcoal piles. I put enough charcoal on each side so that the cooking grate just clears the charcoal. You need to apply charcoal lighter and let it seep in for about 5 minutes. I use a propane torch to light the coals. Once the coals are white, I place the aluminum pan between the coals to catch the drippings, place the cooking grate in the kettle and place the turkey on the grate breast side up and paste. I open the the vents(top and bottom just shy of halfway open), cover and cook for 7.5 min/lb. To test if the turkey is done I press an ice cube between my thumb and index finger until numb, then uncover the grill and squeeze one of the drumstick/thigh joints. If you can squeeze to the bone easily, the turkey is done. If not reseat the cover and cook for another 3-5 minutes and repeat the testing. I grill a 21-22 lbs turkey for Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Years for our dinners. Sorry if this was too much info. Good Luck.

A:  They keep the briquettes from falling off the grate. I'm using these with a Char-Broil barbecue.

A:  Our local store [ Victor] did not carry them. Online was the only option.
