Q:Is this safe to use? I was told yesterday by store employee while shopping for this in-store that people are no longer using these bc you get a metal sliver inside your food whereby you can accidentally ingest it. So I did not buy it. I have seen this info on the news, so why are they still selling them?

A:  I don't know. I have used the brush for a couple of years now, and am not aware of metal slivers getting into our food. From my experience, it seems to me that any slivers would just fall down into the burner area of the grille, due to the shape of the grates. I have to say that the brush does a good job of cleaning the top surface of the grates, but is too wide to reach down to the sides very well. It does seem to be holding up well, however.

A:  Hello, This is safe to use. You should replace your grill brushes at least every season or more often for frequent grillers. Before each use, check your brush for damage such as loose bristles. If loose bristles are found, immediately discard and replace the brush. A:  You'll have the same problem with any metal grill brush (that's ALL of them). Same problem if you use steel or copper wool. The instructions say when the brush starts to shed (probably 5-7 years) you should replace it. It's up to you to be prudent about it.

A:  It is of course possible that it will eventually shed fibers, but then eating from a can even with a pull ring rather than the conventional can open style has the same risk. I think the likelihood of ingesting a piece large enough to do real harm is relatively remote. Further you use the brush prior to placing food on the grates. I suspect you'd see the loose piece of metal and knock it from the grate prior to placing food on it. Are there other alternatives yes, but I think the reality is so long as you periodically check the brush for loose bristles it is going to be safe to use it.

A:  Hi Pspez, yes you can use this grill brush on your porcelain coated cast iron grates. You can also use Weber model number 6495., either of these will work fine.

A:  Yes. At least it is the exact part that Weber recommended for the Weber E-220 gas grill (which has porcelain coated iron grates) that I recently ordered. However, I haven't used it yet.
