Q:I am making a mirror and i would like to buy a big mirror and then cut the bamboo long ways so I have the bamboo on both sides of the mirror instead of glueing it whole.

A: Yes. Bamboo is easy to split. I've done it many times with projects. I suggest
using a simple kitchen cleaver and small hammer. However, for the mirror project,
I think you should consider using a diameter larger than the 1/4 inch. Remember
that bamboo poles are not real straight, and are inconsistent.

The outside diameter is anywhere from 1/8" to 1/4". Because these are grown naturally, there is some variance in the diameter sizes.
