Answer This Question

A:  This unit is a modified sine wave. To get a pure sine wave you need the 800w or better models. Also on power if ordering inverters you want to match the wattage to the usage. This will make your battery last longer. These are answers I have found in the manual for this unit.

A:  too small/worthless besides you need pure sine wave

    by|May 4, 2023

A:  LJB, Peak power is going to be 800 W and as far as waves are concerned it is a modified sine wave between 150W and 400W and a pure sine wave for 400-800W.

A:  No, but when the battery reaches 10 volts the low battery alarm will come on and shut down. At this point you car probably won't start!

              by|May 4, 2023

A:  Think about this also you can also have additional battery on hand so you have to use your car battery.

                by|May 4, 2023

A:  Get a deep cycle battery. Use that and leave the car battery alone. The car battery is not designed to take deep drains and recharging of power. The deep cycle batteries are designed to handle the power drain and charge cycles. BTW the folks that mentioned the 800W full sign wave power converters, absolutely the right call. It might be a little more but look for the pure sine instead of modified sine.

A:  No, the car engine would not need to be active to use the batteries power, However to keep the battery charged you would want to engage the engine to recharge the power being drained by using the inverter.

A:  Keep in mind watts is voltage 120 time amps. Now look at your AC and see if it fits. Also you will pull more current on startup.

A:  You guys are insane, unless you want a smoking hot inverter around probably making noise and popping the fuse all the time. So 5000 btu ac 115volts 4amps (115x4) 460watts right? not quite it will have a substantial jump at start up and a small jump when the compressor kicks in, while the peak for this is 800 watts its only meant to hold a consistant 400 (without overheating\fuse popping) so at the end of the day even if this does run it without popping fuses all the time the abuse on it will surely shorten the life of the product. general rule of thumb is always get just a little more than you need not a little less. personally planning a solar project for my rv trailer and after much research the inverter is the part that had the largest quality spectrum (bad to good). I have been thinking of getting one of these for smaller items in the rv and a larger one for the ac unit and electronics that require pure sign wave inverters to keep from excessive battery wear.

A:  A 5,000 BTU window unit pulls about 4 amps. A 400 watt inverter is (400/120) 3.33 amps. You should probably not run this at over 80% of the rating so 3.33*.8=2.66 amps. IMO, no, this unit will NOT be sufficient for a small AC.
