Q:What is the thickness of the pan? The spec sheet says 1.75" -- is that correct? If so, that's inconvenient (1.5" would be convenient). I need to know by how much to lower my shower area subfloor in order to to have a level finish with 1/2" durock + 1/4" tile. Thanks

A: The answer is yes if you have the capabilities and experience to cut the tile. The troughing channels which direct the water to the drain come off the drain hole at almost a 60deg angle on both sides like a V. This forming doesn't lend itself easily to large format tile. Be aware that this base doesn't have a single flat section upon it that a 12x12 tile or any large format tile can sit in complete contact with the sub straight and not teeder-todder a bit, except directly across from the drain. The contours of the pan will force you to get creative with your install. I found it rather fun trying to flip flop 45's down the channels. Ultimately there should be a note of some kind in the product description warning DIYers that large format tile isn't advised for the layman.
