The troughing channels which direct the water to the drain come off the drain hole at almost a 60deg angle on both sides like a V. This forming doesn't lend itself easily to large format tile. Be aware that this base doesn't have a single flat section upon it that a 12x12 tile or any large format tile can sit in complete contact with the sub straight and not teeder-todder a bit, except directly across from the drain. The contours of the pan will force you to get creative with your install. I found it rather fun trying to flip flop 45's down the channels.
