Q:our room size results in 2' waste for each beam. How can I join 2 pieces w/o a seam giving the join away?

Answer This Question
A: We would be happy to walk you through the process of hiding the joining of two beams. The first and easiest method is to use one of our decorative faux iron straps. Such as the S 01 or S 02. The straps are flexible and can be installed with an adhesive such as PL Premium or even Velcro. The straps are 41 inches long and can be cut with scissors, so you can use one strap multiple times. If installing the straps on one end, for example 2 feet from the wall, we suggest adding another strap on the opposite end of the beam for aesthetic balance.
The second method is to purchase unfinished beams. Join the beams together using a supporting block. Now that the beams are joined, use a quality wood filler to fill in the joining seam. Use a fork o create grain markings into the wood filler. Allow for the filler to completely dry. You may have to add a second coat. Once the seam has been built up and dried, apply a quality latex primer to the entire beam. This will ensure that stain will evenly apply across the beam and joint. Once the primer dry, apply a semi-solid deck stain to the beam with a roller or spray gun. Once the beam is covered with stain, wipe the beam with a rag until you receive the desired effect.
