Q:are there covers to keep the water hot?

Answer This Question

A:  I am sorry for the delay as you asked this question months ago but it just got to me today. Thus I will assume you already got the answer. However if you have not and for the benefit of others let me answer your question. These tanks lose ½ of one degree per hour. And as they are indirectly fired there is no flue to pull off heat. Thus there is no need to add additional insulation. You certainly could if you want but you will not save any significant savings. Further the heat loss is into the area surrounding the unit. So for half the years it’s not a loss but a heat source for that area. The idea that the standing mass in tank type hot water heaters are a place where tremendous amounts of energy are wasted is a fallacy. Especially in areas where you have boilers and would therefore use this type of product.

Q:Is Home Depot an authorized HTP dealer?I was told that it is not therefore HTP warranty would not...

    Answer This Question

A:  First I want to apologize for the delay in responding to your question. It appears you asked a year ago but it only arrived at my inbox today. In answer to the question Heat Transfer Products has a relationship with The Home Depot and sells it many of its products directly under the Westinghouse name. HTP is also aware that we as a wholesale distributor of plumbing and heating sell its products to the Home Depot. I have found that plumbers and competitors are in the habit of telling people if they do business here or there the warranty is void. Warranties are the purview of the manufacturer and they don’t get to just not honor their responsibility when they find it convenient.

Q:Why does the 30 gallon tank cost more than the 45 gallon tank?

      Answer This Question

A:  Economy of scale. The 45 gallon units outsell the 30 gallon unit by 100 to 1. As a result the cost of manufacture the smaller unit is higher. Thus the distributor cost is hire. The same holds true on electric and gas heaters.
