Q:I want to put this in the wall above the door and wire it to the hot hot side of a light switch. I have tall cathedral ceilings and I want to know if using this as a return will push hot ceiling air out of the room so the cold central air can fill the room? Does my idea sound like it will achieve my desired result in getting the room to cool and would this be able to be wired to the hot side of the light switch? What kind of wire would I use to do that?

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes, we have other customers use this fan for the same type of application and it has worked for them. Please keep in mind that it will push warm air into the hallway or adjoining room, making this area warmer. Please consult our installation instructions for your wiring questions. I do not see where we recommend a type of wire however 12 AWG should work.

    by|May 7, 2020

A:  Yes, it should work. I heat my house with a woodstove, which is located in the basement. I installed this fan above the basement door near the ceiling to assist in pulling hot air near the ceiling up the stairs and into the main floor of the house. It's not a huge fan, but has variable speed. It is sufficient for my requirements and made a big difference in how warm the upstairs gets then without the fan. 14/2 wire with ground is all that is required to connect it. It draws very little amps. It has it's own on/off/variable speed dial. If you connect it to a light switch then you could also control on/off with the switch or connect it to the hot wire leading to the switch so it's directly connected to the hot wire. It's fairly quiet, but the faster you set it the more you may notice it running especially in a bedroom at night when there's no other noise happening.it I'm on my second unit after 4 years of use on the first one. I keep it on 7/24 once I begin using the woodstove for about 4-5 months. It stopped working so I replaced it with a new unit so keep in mind with constant usage it may not last forever. In Summary, your theory in using this fan seems like it would help. Keep it as high above the door as possible to pull the warmest air.

A:  You can buy a fan blade that reverses the airflow. Contact Suncourt directly at 800-999-3267 or email through the Contact Us at www.suncourt.com.

A:  I don't know about reversing the hot & neutral wires if it would reverse the fan. It has a on/off/variable speed dial. You install the fan in the direction you want to push the air into. So if you want to exhaust air from a room you install it so the air is pulled from that room.

Q:Our garage is hot almost year round (even at night) & it would be great if we could make it more tolerable to work in the garage with the door closed!

A:  The Suncourt ThruWall fan is designed to be used in interior walls only.

                by|Aug 20, 2019

A:  In theory you could do that, but you may need to add metal pipe to extend it. I think it has a 6 inch extension limit, so you may have to cut a piece of metal pipe(i.e the type used for a clothes dryer exhaust) to extend it. The other issue you may have is its only made for interior use, so if the side facing outside gets very wet it may cause a short and trigger the circuit breaker or damage the motor. You could fabricate a hood over it using a piece of alum flashing to keep the rain, snow and UV light of it.

                  by|May 9, 2020

A:  This is a good fan, I am using it to move air between 2 interior rooms. You would need at least 5 of these for a 1 car garage! You need something much more powerful than this fan for your garage. I have a 300 CFM bath type exhaust fan in my garage, and it still barely manages to remove the hot air.

                    by|Aug 22, 2019

A:  The fan motor and switch are on the exhaust side of the fan. That puts the electrical outside the garage, a bad idea. Suncourt does make exhaust fans that exhaust the other way, I think that is a special order. In any case as others point out this fan is to small. A garage is at least 450 sq. ft. You would need several fans or a much larger one assuming the garage roof is insulated, if not the air requirements are much more.

A:  No this is inadvisable. You never want to open up a space where fumes from your garage have a way of seeping into the house.

A:  I used it to remove air from a small data room, into a large open room to dissipate the warm air, with a small fan on floor to move air toward this wall fan, only concern is moving warm air to enclosed garage space, and i don't think this fan is powerful enough, only my opinion

A:  Yes, it can be used at bathroom and kitchen for ventilation purposes. You can put wood at the side of window opening.

A:  Yes, it will work. However, this fan does not generate a great deal of air movement, even on high (variable speed dial on lower right). It is also moderately noisy, definitely not 'silent' especially as you dial-up speed. Finally, you may want to paint the outside to blend in with your color scheme. This requires some careful masking tape placement and careful spraying. I had electrician hard-wire.

A:  I believe that it will. I use 2 units with one pulling in outside room AC cooled air into the bottom area and the second one pushing hot air out from the top. Both are connected to a wall outlet that turns ON at a hot temperature. Hope this helps ;)

A:  Hello Scott, I installed this fan two years ago to transfer heat from a wood stove to a kitchen in the back of my house and I'm very happy with the performance. Home Depot's website provides you with schematics for this but without the " fan in hand" I can see your dilemma. What I can tell you is that I had to go back and make adjustments in my framing and drywall at installation time. The face or control side of the unit supports all the structural support to the framing and the exact measurement between the mounting screws are 11" W x 8 1/4" H. I used longer drywall screws here to anchor to 2 x 4 framing rather than those supplied. I made two mistakes , I didn't leave space for the electric control box, and I had to go back and scribe and cut the drywall so that the face plate could be recessed to sit flush into the drywall... just personal preference. The rear grill will be much easier if you scribe the drywall to match the through wall housing and then use the hollow wall anchors supplied. Sorry I couldn't be more help, but I'm sure you'll agree that your tolerances here are appliance specific to get a custom installation. Good luck, I'm sure you"ll be pleased with your finished project...it runs quiet and moves a lot of air.

A:  The fan comes apart the metal housing would have to be modified in order for the fan to suck the air from ceiling height. The covers can be separated. The easiest way would be to use the space between two studs as the duct work and remove the metal housing that would connect to the other grille. Install the fan low and the other grille high.
