Q:Can multiple mats be ran off of one controller? Like a hallway and bathroom next to each other. Obviously in parallel all wires ran directly to thermostat. Would I just want to hook one sensor up to each mat?

        Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for the question. Yes multiple mats can be ran to one controller up to 15 amps in total, so depends on your mat size. If beyond 15 amps we you can look to add a relay to break up the load. As for sensors, you can only hook up 1 sensor per thermostat, so you would want to strategically place the sensor in the proper location to support both areas.

Q:For small 1" mosaic hex tiles I read that you should first cover the mats with self-leveling compound to give a flat tiling surface. Is there any efficiency/heat loss when using this method? I plan to use this as the primary heating source for the room.

            Answer This Question

A:  Great question. For mosaic tile we recommend from our manual: Mosaic Tile: When installing mosaic tile, it is recommended to apply a two-step process. First, embed the heating wire in a thin self-level mortar bed (1/4"–3/8"), then thin-set the mosaic tile according to typical practice. This will not affect the performance of the heating, as this will allow for a proper installation of the mosaic tiles.

Q:When installing a Suntouch heat mat on concrete floor, shold there be some type of undermat where the concrete doesn't absorb most of the heat?

              Answer This Question

A:  Thanks for the question. You can increase the mat performance and use less energy by adding an insulation layer, but it is not required. Key takeaway is make sure if you add the layer of insulation that your wire is complete encased in mortar for proper operation and performance. Refer to our manual for more details.
