Answer This Question
A: Look for model # RIWO74200050. This is a prefinished white oak riser. It is a natural finish, but the description does not have that listed in the name. If you review the Product Overview, it will advise that this is a natural white oak riser.

A: You do not need to match the type of wood, but the thickness is quite important. One of the reasons these 5/8" thicknesses are so inconvenient if you are running a full 3/4" floor. There is a fairly easy solution to match the 3/4" floor, and that is to place a 1/8" thick underlayment under your top step - code allows 3/8" variation in riser height over your entire run of steps so this would easily be code-compliant, depending on the rest of the riser heights. If you were to be putting down a 1/2" floor then this becomes more problematic. You could take a router and reduce the back of the tread by 1/8" inch, but at that thickness I'd definitely glue the reduced-thickness tread down with ample adhesive to keep it stable. But first check to see the actual height of the floor with any pad it might sit on - engineered - prior to altering the tread.
