A: Run power cord through wall? No..it's against National Electrical Code to run extension cord wiring through a hole or opening in a wall, inside a dropped ceiling or under flooring..not to be used for permanent wiring..will jam conduit due to rubber coat.

Q:I have a 70 foot run from the power panel to the 5 ton a/c unit requires 50 amps 240 volts is the 6/4 enough or should i go with 4/4?

Answer This Question
A: While a 6/4 SOOW cord would be adequate for a 240V, 50A circuit at 70' (with a voltage drop of 2.11% (5.06V)), keep in mind that flexible cords like SOOW cannot be used for permanent installations (hard-wired on both ends). Flexible cords are UL listed and allowed by the NEC for temporary, plug and receptacle connections.
