Q:How did this auger respond when you hit a rock? I had one that almost pulled my shoulder out of the socket when I hit a rock.

    Answer This Question

A:  This auger is not designed to bore through hard limestone and rock. You would have to bore down as far as you can then use a breaker/digging bar to bust up the rock and clear it out of the way, then continue boring the hole with the auger.

Q:What’s the torque and horsepower on this puppy?

A:  My brother and I bought this auger to drill holes for a split rail fence. We needed to drill about 45 holes total. The auger bit just makes the 3ft requirement with the handle touching all the way to the ground. The ground was mostly shale which is not ideal for this auger, but can still do the job. It will definitely drive harder with 2 people pushing down while reciprocating. The auger made it through the job but we noticed wear on the engine a bit (Probably from powering through 45 holes of shale). It does still work, just not as strong. As far as torque and horsepower: the auger has just enough torque to start the drilling process and the first 18 to 24 inches drills quick. Horsepower, the auger is slow and will never compare to say a Stihl, but I would recommend it on a budget and for jobs like deck/porch footers. Hope this helps.

A:  The Southland SEA438 Earth Auger has a powerful 43cc engine (approx. 1.3 HP) that produces an output torque at the bit of 21.5 Ft/Lbs.

            by|Jun 1, 2020

A:  Ha It has plenty of torque to plow thru clay rich soil if you let it cut its way thru, if you run into larger stones, roots you better be braced or your wrists will take the shock.

                A:  torque 1.3 horsepower 1.75

A:  i purchased this auger because one person could use it to dig the postholes for my new fence. l believe it is a great value for the price. Dug 80 holes with no problems with only myself and l am 68 years young. Just be sure to run out/ drain system of the oil/gas mixture before storing away between uses if it will be idle for more than 30 days. Skip S.

A:  No problem at all with a sticking primer button. Absolutely love my auger. One of my best investment in tools. Use it for landscape planting. Probably have dug over 250 holes since last fall. Starts right up after about the third pull. Made it through the winter storage with no problems.
