        Q:I need a 26” wide shelf to raise my tv above sound bar. Can I cut this? It will not be hanging on the wall. Just sitting on a cabinet. Is it hollow?

        A:  sorry, you cannot cut it since a portion is hollowed-out to accommodate the concealed anchoring and, you will be left with an unfinished edge.

          A:  I would not cut it. It’s made of composite with a veneer finish. Although cutting would be safe, if the shelf is not hung, it will be ugly.

              A:  I have had very good luck with this shelf, as for painting it I'm not sure. Just about anything can be painted but I would check with the Home Depot paint department or a professional painter before doing so.

                A:  Hello Yank, The shelf comes finished from the manufacturer. In order to repaint it you will need to scuff the existing finish, prime and then repaint it. I hope this helps. Cheers, Chris

                  A:  The description is correct. I don’t believe sanding would be practical or maybe not necessary. If you are planning light usage, color change would work.
