A: Our American Standard toilets with Sloan Flushmate units were installed in 1995. One cartridge had to be replaced in 2019. The other one is just now failing (Feb.2023). We have only two people living in the house since new, so your mileage may vary.

Q:I've never worked on this type of toilet before so... rookie question: Is it true that when everything is working properly, the interior of the tank should be dry? I'm seeing water at the bottom of the tank that I suspect is not supposed to be there but I'm not certain. Since there is also water accumulating at the top of the cartridge, I suspect that's where it's coming from so I need to replace this part.

A: The answer is NO you don't need to repair the pressure vessel tank. The water you see is in the ceramic tank is from the over pressurizing of the pressure vessel, it's there so the pressure vessel doesn't explode from being OVER PRESURIZED....so no repair is required!! That being said if the water s at the top of the ceramic tank then the pressure vessel is leaking and should be replaced. So a little water in ceramic tank is ok but a lot of water is a pressure vessel leak that needs repairing.

A: Yes, the tank should never have water in it. The cartridge is normally the culprit, and since you have water around the top I guarantee it's the problem. They are easy to change just be sure to lubricate the o-rings. Good instructions come with it, be sure to read them. The cartridge doesn't normally need to be screwed all the way down.

A: It will remain mostly dry. Residual water may collect but you're talking about a very small, immeasurable amount. The seal on the cartridge is allowing the water to seep out of it. Eventually it will fail to pressurize the vessel enough that it won't flush any longer. Replacement is a snap.

A: Some water can be expected. The cartridge accumulates some on top. That’s probably what you’re seeing.

A: Nope, the interior of the "tank" doesn't have to be dry, as a little water leaks out of an anti-siphon fitting at the top of the pressure tank where the water line attaches to the pressure vessel. This is normal and it falls into the toilet on every flush. Replace this part only if the toilet doesn't flush properly. Otherwise save your money.

A: Not difficult at all. Might be best if you also purchase the Sloan tool, but can be done without if you have some mechanical aptitude.
by|May 5, 2023
A: Not difficult at all, use the handles of pliers and a crescent wrench to take old unit out.
Same tools to put the new unit in.
by|May 9, 2019
A: Very easy, Just shutoff the water, open the lid, remove the flush head part by removing the screw and then use plier handle to unscrew, It may be tight but it will unscrew. once unscrewed, Reverse the process and put back the new one.

Q:will this valve fit a gerber toilet

A: I would need more information to answer this question. Gerber makes a lot of different kinds of toilets. One of their toilets, the Gerber Ultraflush 21-302 does have a Sloan Flushmate 1.6 gal tank. If the is the toilet you have than the C 100500 K flushmate valve should fit the tank. This valve would not work with the other Gerber models to my knowledge.
I've included an internet link that may be of help to you. It is a revies of the Gerber Ultraflush tank.

If the inside of you tank looks like the one in the picture the C100500 should work. Youtube also has helpful videos Let me know if you have any questions.

A: If it is a Sloan unit in the tank, then yes. Mine are Gerber toilets and this is the correct valve for them.
