The answer is when you press the remote control, the locking mechanism unlocks first and then the motor pulls the door open and then closes it. The electric strike then locks the door again. On the DM-50 which does not have a locking mechanism, you will need to manually unlock the door before pressing the remote control button so that the motor can open and close the door.
