Q:Does this have a 0.375in rod/bolt hole? Can it be resized to 0.5in? 0.375 rod is a little bit too elastic for my application, but the load rating is right.

A:  Hi Joey, thank you for your message. This is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. The DTT2Z has a pre-punched hole to accommodate a 1/2" rod. Please be aware that holes cannot be enlarged or modified as this would void any value or warranty on our parts. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Answer This Question

A:  It makes no sense that a 2 pack costs $30 and the single costs $10. But they are the same item.

Q:Nowhere on Simpson's website can I find the acceptable material type for the 1/2" thru-bolt or hex bolt that can be used with the DTT2Z. Can you use either Stainless Steel, or Galvanized, or only one type?

        Answer This Question

A:  Hello RobG, this is Efrain from Simpson Strong-Tie. Most of the anchor bolts we stock don't have any finish to them but they can be ordered in hot-dipped galvanized. No finish or hot-dipped would be preferred to be used with the ZMAX finish of the DTT. We only recommend a stainless steel anchor when the DTT is also in stainless steel. If you have any further questions feel free to call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

Q:It says that that the included connector screws don't need to be pre-drilled. If I want to pre-drill them, can I? And with how big a bit?

          Answer This Question

A:  1/8 bit for pre-drilling if you must,or use the slighty smaller simpson deck tie screws , use the longer ones if you are securing to double joists

          by|Feb 27, 2022

A:  Hello BTTT, this is Ricardo from Simpson Strong-Tie. Yes, you can predrill. The answer as to what size depends on a couple of different variables such as what type of lumber you are installing them into. For Doug Fir, Spruce Pine Fir, or Hem Fir, 5/32 or 11/64 lead hole. If you have a different material than these, please contact our technical support team at 800.999.5099.

                  Answer This Question

A:  More information would be needed. It would depend on what application you are using them for and what code requirement you are using them to satisfy. Please see the Deck Connection and Fastening Guide on our website for further information. The DTT2Z is featured on page 19 for Lateral-Load Connections and pages 20-22 for Guard Post to Deck Framing connections. We recommend that deck designs be approved by the local building department before construction begins. Thank you!

Q:How would you install proper blocking between the lateral band joist and the adjacent inside joist in situation where you need to place posts on both sides of outside corner of deck? Seems like the tension ties interfere with each other in the tight corner

A:  You need to offset the two brackets vertically, so the bolts don't interfere with each other. Picture below and a video showing the technique: https://youtu.be/lTRquLcL6Jo?t=7m59s
