Q:Are bolts and washers and screws included or do I have to purchase them separately?
by|Jan 23, 2024

Answer This Question

A:  Hi Norm, Thank you for your question. The ABW is not supplied with bolts or screws, the washer is supplied with the part though. The screws should be the Strong-Drive® SD CONNECTOR Screw, specifically part number SD9112. Screws not manufactured by Simpson Strong-Tie are not supported in our products. Q:What is the recommended length of anchor for this base?

    Answer This Question

A:  Hi Dan, thank you for your message. This is Ricardo with Simpson Strong-Tie. We provide the diameter of the anchor, which in this case is 1/2", but the length is determined by the designer of record. We do offer a technical bulletin with Titen HD options that are for wind or low seismic design. For high seismic design you will need to have the designer of record callout the anchor type and length. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. https://ssttoolbox.widen.net/view/pdf/0smhqae1q1/TEB-PSTB23.pdf?t.download=true&u=cjmyin

Q:What size nails do you use to secure this item to a 4x4 post and do you need to use all of the holes or just one on each side?

      Answer This Question

A:  Hello Scottsman, my name is Colin with Simpson Strong-Tie. The ABW44Z Adjustable and Standoff Post Base requires eight 0.148" x 3" (10d) nails, typically hot dip galvanized for exterior use, 2 on each of the four sides. You could also use the Strong Drive #9 x 1-1/2" (SD9112) screws and achieve the same allowable load values. If you need more information or have additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you.

        Answer This Question

A:  Hi Gregg, thank you for your message. We want to make sure we address your question regarding ABW Adjustable Post Base. The choice of which post base to use for your addition has a few factors at play you will need to answer. The demand loads on the base in download and uplift as well as any lateral load are the main factors. We would be happy to discuss this with you and answer additional questions, please contact the Simpson Strong-Tie Customer Service team at 800-999-5099. We look forward to hearing from you. -Stacy

            A:  Yes.

            by|Apr 28, 2023

A:  Hello Pye3letterslSaname, thank you for reaching out with your question. The ABW ZMAX Adjustable Post Base has our proprietary ZMAX zinc finish. This finish is considered a medium corrosive-resistant finish and is compatible with most pressure treated lumber that is sold. If you are purchasing a special kind of treated lumber that is not readily available and requires a certain blend of chemicals that are specific to the project, it may require more information from the lumber company that is applying the chemical treatment to determine if there will be some compatibility issues with our products. Additionally, I would suggest to use a similar zinc coated / hot dip galvanized fastener, or, our Simpson SD9112 connector screws. If you have any additional questions, please contact our Technical Support team at (800)999-5099 and we would be happy to assist you.

                Answer This Question

A:  Hello Anton, this is Stacy with Simpson Strong-Tie, We do not have lateral capacities for our adjustable ABA/ABU/ABW post bases. We have limited testing on those post bases with lateral loads applied and we found that, due to the slotted bolt holes, the deflection and slip loads varied a lot and could be very low. If you wish to discuss this further or if you have any other questions please call us at (800) 999-5099. We look forward to speaking with you.

A:  Hello, decking screws should not be used to install structural hardware. Only approved fasteners should be used to assure the connector performs as intended. Please refer to our literature to determine approved fasteners. Regards.
