Q:Tips by DIY'er after installation. 1) Saw many complaints on this and other locks about auto unlock feature irritating. Several years ago I had a lock without this feature and I locked my self out of house and had the expense of breaking in. APPRECIATE THIS FEATURE. 2) Saw complaints about angle screwdriver not able to tighten bolts. The normal Phillips PH2 shaft is too thick. Use the PH1 that has a thinner shaft that will fit against the knob and fit the bolt heads - just use slightly more pressure to avoid stripping the head as the angle is still not perfectly straight. 3) For the shaft to fit the inside finger knob you have to play around with it to get it lined up - be patient. 4) The frame brackett did not fit my old screw location but the old one did work fine with the new lock. Suggest Schlage enclose additional bracket that fits spec size of older doors (distance between screws).

A:  Did not have issue with installation, but had issue with operation. Soon after installation, had difficulty trying to unlock with key. After inserting key, could not turn key to unlock. Can't remember if I took apart mechanism to check problem, but I did put graphite in key slot. After that it seems to work ok.

A:  Re Rocky: I did not have a problem with key, but when I finished installing I did squirt liquid silicone spray into key hole. As a side note our area just went through severe flooding and due to the moisture all my old locks were getting difficult for the key to go into so I sprayed all of them with silicone and it seemed to work well. On another side note, my wooden door also swelled and took a body slam to open. I had to grind off some wood but still sticking somewhat. Went to Google and the suggestion was dry Silicone. Had bought dry Silicone from Home Depot before but they did not have any but had a similar product with Teflon. I sprayed it on door frame and door and door much less sticking. Don't know how long that will last but as door dries out that should solve problem.

        Answer This Question

A:  The F51 is a residential Grade 2, meaning it exceeds most apartment building requirements, and exceed typical residential requirements. Grade 2 can be described as "light commercial". Q:You list a Model # F51A BEL 605 and a F51A BEL 505 605. Do these numbers correlate to Left Hand and Right hand doors and if so which is which? They look alike but are different prices (although not by a large amount.)

          Answer This Question

A:  I am the one who asked this question. I called Schlage and found out the lock with the "505" designation had an extra durable (coating) finish for locks exposed to more harsh elements (as when you would have a door without a screen door to shield it from harsh weather.). Living in a cold weather climate I purchased the 505 version just to insure the locks finish will continue to look great for many more years to come. Worth the extra few cents to get the most durable finish available, in my opinion.

A:  No, the difference does not imply that the knobs are for left hand or right hand doors.

A:  I am sorry for the confusion. These locks look very similar but there is an additional coating on the F51A BEL 505 605 to help better protect the finish. Both models come with a lifetime finish warranty. In the event that the finish does not hold up against the elements, they can be replaced under the warranty at no cost to the original owner. Answer This Question

A:  Unfortunately, there is no way to specify keying options through the website. However you can purchase the locks through this site and take them to the store once they arrive to have them keyed alike. If you have further questions, please feel free to reach out to Customer Care at 888-805-9837.

                  Answer This Question

A:  F51A is "panic proof" per se. When locked (thumb turn horizontal) and you go to open the door it will auto unlock. Requiring it to be re-locked by key or thumb turn when leaving.
