A:  8" apart centered. Upper holes 1" down, lower holes 4" down. Good luck getting anything through the lower holes though, they are too low to reach unless at a steep angle - we could only use the top two. Seems to be adequate, but the mailbox is heavy so use good long screws. Love the look though!

A:  8 inches apart. There are two sets of mounting holes, each 8 inches apart horizontally. The two sets of mounting holes are 2-3/4 inches apart vertically. You might not need to install screws into both sets of mounting holes - the top two holes might be enough. We had to use both sets for stability since our house has wooden siding that overlaps, so it's not a flat surface. The lower set of mounting holes made it stable. I had my handyman install the mailbox because I had shoulder surgery, and he installed it in about two minutes using his electric screwdriver.
