A:  Hello Cat. Yes, they are actual openings that feature a window grid design. However, this mailbox includes a privacy plate option to block the holes.

A:  Yes, those are real holes in the box. It is possible that rain would get in if the box is exposed. Ours is sheltered by the overhang of the roof so we don't have to worry about it too much. The mailbox does come with an optional metal piece that you can attach to the inside front so the mail would be better protected. But, then the holes don't show up as well.

A:  Those are actual holes to allow you to see the mail, but they include a privacy panel which mounts behind the holes which covers them. I am a picky consumer and this is a very well made mailbox. You won't be sorry if you purchase this. Mine is mounted to the side of the house under a covered porch, so I left the holes open and I have had no issues.

A:  This model does not included magazine hooks.

A:  I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE MATERIAL IS, BUT I AM HAPPY WITH THE PRODUCT ANYWAY. I AM GUESSING IT IS STEEL.

A:  The reddish look in the picture is not even close to the true color which is more of a dull, antiqued brass color, sort of gold/brown--not a hint of red. I returned it for that reason because I was looking for the reddish tone.

A:  This is an antique brass color.

A:  No, there is not a way to lock the mailbox.
